I plan on turning my 10/22 into a AK-10/22 (I made that name up), with a folding AK buttstock, and a AK pistol grip. Has anyone else done anything like this? If you have I could use some ideas, and Id love to see some pictures.
thanks
Brian

Depending on its current configuration and the year it was manufacutred, the setup you are describing may be illegal. What is your current configuration and date of mfg.??

Assault weapons bans are a b!tch are they not?

I am farmiliar with the ban, this rifle is from the late 80's.

Are you familiar with it enough to know the rifle has to have been in AW configuration before the ban? Just because a rifle was built before the ban doesn't mean it is "Pre-Ban."

I've also heard the caution all "they" have to prove is AW configuration, you will have to prove it's pre-ban status.

All in all I think it's up to you to decide how much of a gamble it all is.

Yes, I know all this.

Then you're aware that you may be committing a felony by changing the configuration of your 10/22.

That's what is so stupid about the ban as it affects these particular rifles.  Unlike an AR-15 (where you can slap any "evil" features on it if the receiver is pre-ban), a 10/22 has to have been modified to folding stock or other "evil" configuration prior to the ban in order for it to be legally modified today.

i thought th AW ban said centerfir in the wording...  damnit.  gotta go look it up now.

I thought the same thing because of someone online here pointing it out to me.  They gave me a link to the wording and everything.

I looked again later and there is no mention of centerfire.  He may have pointed out a state law or something and I didn't catch it.  Not sure, but I was really confused when I saw it later without the word "centerfire" in it.

The Federal AW ban applies to both centerfire and rimfire rifles. bruh44 can make his project gun because his is a preban, as he has stated, and because he already had a folding type stock before the ban (which of course he did).

the California AW ban specifies "centerfire" rifles, and exempts rimfires. What this means is I can still buy and import a preban rimfire with "evil" features - Jager AP-74, AMT Lightning, ect. Now, because of California's magazine ban, I wouldn't be able to import these models magazines (15rd & 25rd)........ through my FFL.

I built one very similar to this one quite a few years ago:

That's sweet.  How much of a pain was it to put together?  I've thought about doing something like it with my 10-22, the Choate folder that's on it is ok, but isn't as neat.  A M3 greasegun/M231 port firing weapon wire stock would be cool also.

It's not a matter of having faith in you.  It's a matter of looking out for the safety and well-being of a brother shooter.  :)

If it was in AW configuration prior to middle Sept of 1994, it can have all the evil features you want. If not, you can only add one evil feature to a semiauto rifle which uses a detachable magazine: bayonet lug, flash suppressor and/or threaded barrel, pistol grip, folding stock

O.K. wait a miniute. what about all the stuff you can get from cabellas and basspro.they have pistolgrip stocks(folding stocks welded in the extended position),flash hiders, and all kinds of stuff like that. is it illigal to put more than one of those things on my post-ban 10/22.

I thought it was a telescoping stock, not a folding stock?

It sucks too 'cause a 10/22 w/a folding stock is one handy backpacking/truck/boat rifle to have around and cheap enough that you don't care if it gets beat up.  I had one with a Ramline folding stock but the gang banger ripped it off yo!  I moved right after that....

funny, they stole a Raven .25 and my 10/22 but left my TZ-75 9mm.

Dumb....

Is there some place one can go to look up serial #'s of 10/22 carbines to see what year they were manufactured?

O.K, just so I understand this correctly.

I have a preban 10/22. Since I didn't have a folding stock prior to the ban, I can't have one now. Is that correct?

Any one know where I can get one of those F.E.C. XC-220's? That looks like a fun little gun.

No Mach1 that is NOT CORRECT (BK??)

If you had a 10/22 in ANY assault weapons configuration, (detach mag and pistol grip and ANY of the other features, or detach mag and any two of the other features, folding, flash, supress, telescopingstock), then you may add on more evil features (had flash, detach, and pistol, but now want folding stock), you may ADD features, or exchange...

However, if you had a plain Jane 10/22 from 1988 and didn't do anything to it, then it doesn't qualify as an AW and is not preban... =(

Yes, Phoenix is correct. I had assumed non-AW configuration.
