I have a concealable 3a vest and am thinking of using a hesco 3600 plates as a hard trauma plate.
Anyone ever try this or have info on what kind of threats this might stop beyond the 3 rating?
Vest in question for reference.

Thanks.

It will likely stop M855.

That's what I'm hoping.
I already ordered a small 3600 plate to try in it.
I'll post some pics of how it fits when I get it.

It will stop what the plate is rated to at the plate area, and what the vest is rated to at the vest area. There is no guarantee that combining soft armor with non-ICW Hesco plates will increase the threat protection. Not to mention the 3600 alone does not stop M855, which may be why they are no longer sold and are discontinued.

I understand that. I figured if I was going to order a trauma plate, it might as well stop some rifle rounds.
At 1.9# and less than $200 I feel like it's a decent upgrade. I'm hoping the two might stop m855, I'm also hoping to never find out with my set up.

If I recall correctly the 3600 are a pure polyethylene (spectra) plate. That would mean there is no ceramic to break up the steel penetrator that is in the M855. I would not be comfortable saying that paired with soft armor it would defeat the m855 round out of a regular barrel.

I've heard @buffmanlt1 say that poly plates over 1" thick can stop 855.
At least I think that's what he said.

I'm pretty sure that is with a shorter barrel. At slower speeds poly can stop it, but normal speeds it rips right through and I doubt the kevlar would do anything to stop it either.

That's all in theory. There are different types of PE. I've shown it's possible to stop M855 from 10.5" to 16" barrels with some PE plates typically over 1", but it's not guaranteed :D

Thanks for the info.
The plate I have is 1.2", so here's hoping!
