Pretty neat. How do you like that Ferro Mini Dangler when wearing your gun belt? Seems like the perfect size.

Little update on my junk.

T.Rex AC1 w/ Hesco L210s + T.Rex tear-away utility for small medical emergencies + Ferro Mini Dangler for small tools, duct tape, protein bars, etc. I reversed the AC1's cummerbund so the larger pockets are up front which allows me to index SR-25 or AR mags for a reload or down to my belt.

I've covered my belt before and it remains mostly unchanged.

Well I am a climber but I don't live around any particularly tall buildings or homes; I live on a beach community island, so there are things to climb I suppose. I'm just not a big chest-rig guy; I have a Spiritus rig but I never use it. I remember listening to Nick Irving describe his kit layout and the reasoning behind it -- how he wanted to fight off his belt and run his carrier slick. It just makes lots of good sense to me. I can stuff a few mags in my cummerbund and throw a jacket on and no one even know I'm wearing anything. Add the belt and index mags from the cummerbund or reload from it. I'll probably pick up an elastic mag placard to stick on the front now that I think about it.

I'd recommend a dynamic rope over static. Dynamic will allow you to take a fall should you need to climb something or -- God forbid -- swan dive off the top of Nakatomi Plaza on Christmas Eve like John McClain. Static ropes will break your shit in half if you try some cowboy shit like that, lol. Plus the lower you go on a dynamic rope, the more it stretches so if you come up short in length, there's a chance the rope will stretch enough and get you to the ground safely. And 9.0mm is pretty beefy and bulky. You could get yourself a 7.5mm rope for that application, or thinner. Hell I think they make rescue ropes that are 6mm for one-time use. I've got double 8.0mm Mammut 60m ropes and my climbing partner @L_JE has a pair that we climbed on in Wyoming that are 7.5mm. Great ropes, very light and supple.

All this talk about rappelling has me wanting to pick up an Arc'teryx harness seat designed for their riggers belt. It's just a pair of leg loops but if you use it with a riggers belt, it forms a sort of climbing harness seat that should take the sting out of rappelling with just the waist belt. No way I'd recommend that unless there was absolutely no other way, lol.

Sterling Ropes make a firefighter egress kit that's one of the most badass things I've ever seen.  While it's not quite singular-purpose, it's close: it's to allow you to bail out of a window of a building with the least amount of prep and time.  It would take a fair amount of supervised practice in a proper mock up for anyone to be able to use it though.  I've done tens of thousands of feet of roped descents on mountains, rock faces, and ice falls where a single length of rope doesn't get you tot he ground - and even with all of that, I would want to do a half dozen or more practice runs with this Sterling rig while under the protective belay of a separate rope before I could justify carrying the weight of the Sterling egress kit.  And, this kit is insanely svelte compared to any recreational descent rig I've used or have seen in person.

I honestly can't think of any situation where a dynamic rope with a lead climbing belay would ever be necessary.  And I can think of even fewer situations where someone would have the requisite climbing gear to protect such an ascent attempt.

A rope isn't a bad thing to have in a vehicle.  If you can afford the space it takes.  You can use it to pull a stuck vehicle, drag a tree out of the road, you name it.  But, the one thing you'd probably never use it for is descending some natural feature while kitted up in a plate carrier, etc.

If you are going to have a rope, a static line makes the most sense.  If you think you might be carrying this thing somewhere, get a 7-8mm line similar to what Sterling, et al, makes for fire egress, or maybe even the 6mm stuff Petzl makes for specialized descent/rescue scenarios (their Pur or Rad lines)

Picked up a Spiritus rig for work so I could mount a radio while not wearing kit.  I've been issued a few different similar rigs, but I like how light the spiritus is, and the fact that I can pull the placard and mount it to my armor. Im mounting velcro and some clips to my ruck so I can pull the straps and just mount the placard for some added versatility.

The more I use my kit the more I refine what works.

Ferro Concepts Slickster is comfortable, well built, and reasonably priced. Shoulder pads are almost mandatory unless you have a pencil neck. I may add a Roll 1 to it for an additional IFAK or when I'm running low profile with just a standard belt, pistol, and spare pistol mag.

Old fashioned 2" duty belt with a side release buckle and belt pad. Simple and effective way to carry equipment. Velcro OneWrap is the way for pouch attachment.

ACH cut helmet because the OPS Core FAST I previously had was cool but I wasn't utilizing the high speed features. I could not make ARC rail ear pro adapters work for me, wasn't comfortable at all. Head band worked fine but that kind of defeated the purpose of the OPS Core. ACH has the Team Wendy SOF pads and OPS Core H Nape. Very comfortable.

Com Tac V hearing defenders with a 3.5mm downlead for speaker mic connectivity. Integrates well with various radios and the volume of the headset speakers is excellent. With a 3.5mm to 2.5mm adapter it's very versatile.

Savior Equipment 30” TGB. Not sure what material they are usually made of, but these multicam options were done in 1000d. Construction is on par with my SERT case. The pouches are all BFG dapper pouches I previously had. The triple on the bottom is an Esstac panel from my PC. This will be a kickass range bag.

I’m not sure if I love this. Messing around today and I think the 4 mags might be too wide for me. Running with 3 is nice though.

I originally liked the Molle side but now I know if I put anything there it would be in my armpits

I just scooped the .308 rig and a pair of Spiritus JSTA pouches to rig it out. I hope they won't be up my armpits but we'll see.

I'm really digging the JSTA, but on my belt. It is pretty deep though, will definitely stick into your armpits.  I put Kywis in it with one wrap adapters.

Hell yeah, I also ordered some KYWI inserts and a Spiritus 5.56 elastic mag insert. I plan to index an SR-25 mag and a pistol mag in the left JSTA, then two SR mags in the left and center pocket on the rig, then a TQ or water bottle or whatever in the third cell, then my 19X in the right JSTA using the Spiritus 5.56 mag insert. Gonna hang an Emdom zippered dump below the whole thing. Really not sure how it'll all come together just yet. Been in Nicaragua for a few weeks and everything's waiting on me to mock it up and see how it carries. Seriously hope that shit's not gonna be up my armpits but it sounds like it might be. I'll report back ASAP.

@Baq you're not wrong. My wife found out what a basic ass chest rig cost and was flabbergasted. And I'm not rocking new/super popular shit either. She offered to break out the sewing machine that she hasn't used in 20 years and just "figure it out" but pretty sure it would cost more in hospital bills than buying a pre-made rig.

@daemon734, well here's how it all came together. I still need to get Velcro added to the dump and to the back of the rig so I can hang it.

-BFG .308 Chest Rig
-Spiritus JSTA Pouch x2
-Emdom Zippered Dump

The way I have it set is quite comfy but the rig also rides a bit low. However, this keeps the JSTAs out of my armpits and allows an acceptably-smooth draw of the 19X. As of right now, the 19X is riding inside an INCOG holster, dropped inside the back pocket. The holster doesn't have any Velcro covering so there's zero retention; it just drops in there and the holster's set loose to keep from pulling it out when drawing the gun. Obviously I gotta sort that out.

Over on the left side, you'll see a third SR-25 mag along with a 19X mag, both of which are also just dropped down inside the pocket. It works but like the 19X, it ain't ideal. I tried the KYWI wedge inserts but they just force the pocket to spread open since it's just fabric.

Open to suggestions to solve both the holster and mag retention issues. As of right now, I think I'll probably just get another G-Code OSH and add some Velcro adhesive to it to solve the holster issue, and try the Spiritus mag inserts.

Thoughts?

Nice setup.

This is what I used, some one wrap based adapters for Esstac Kywis.  Once again, they are more expensive than they should be.

i'd say it's quite low.
Sotech low.

i think the emdom pouch it's one of the best to be put in a belt kit, maybe not in that position. It also looks you have mounted a lot of items in such a light low profile rig,  i wonder if it will be stable enough.
