I thought rifles were allowed to be as short as 16" and shotguns had to be 18" to stay off the NFA items list. A non-NFA shotgun barrel at 18" is NOT a short barreled rifle.
Now, if you are asking about them being NFA items because a fully rifled shotgun barrel is greater than 50 caliber, that would be different. ETA - Don't forget about the minimum overall length requirement in addition to the barrel length requirement (rifle > 26" overall). |

Well I noticed the NFA definition was talking about 'smooth bore' for shotguns.

Fully rifled shotgun barrels commonly used for shooting sabot slugs for big game hunting are not covered by NFA. MIKE.

I assumed that we were all talking about barrels 18" or longer. I learned again what happens when you assume. MIKE.
