The steel on the barrel wall of the 870 P in my possession appears to be nearly twice as thick as the 870 E.

Not that it really matters, but Wilson Combat uses regular 870 Express models to build up their guns. They said the Police models would not be cost effective in the least.

I know that the Mossberg Millitary/Police models have a heavy barrel, which is considerably thicker than their commercial 590's

Interesting, Van Comp only charges $100 more for their police model builds as compared to their express builds. Seems like Wilson is deciding what is cost effective for us.

If you are looking at the muzzle, you are probably just seeing the difference between improved cylinder on the 870P and cylinder bore on the 870 Express.

In the business world this = Profit margin not as high because of higher cost of materials.

That doesn't surprise me. I bought a brand new 870-P, paid full retail for everything(Surefire, sidesaddle, mag ext., sling) and still came out about $200 cheaper than a Wilson shotgun.

From a consumer standpoint, the 870P is a better setup. From Wilson's standpoint, the 870P equals a loss in $100 of profit.

Hans told me that he much prefers the Police model. I don't know what the difference is, but I will take Hans word for it.

Mike is correct!

In my own defense, the 870 Express is an old friend, while the 870P is a fairly recent purchase and is unfired. As my pop once said, you can't have too many Remington 870's.

Yes. All new Remington 870's have the flex tab, and have for some years.
