Is the Mossberg 590A1 20" Barrel with the Ghost Ring Sights and the Speed Feed Stock
a decent Shotgun?
Thinking about purchasing one?

First welcome to the site.

The 590 is an excellent reliable home defense shotgun with all kinds of add on options. One of the best in my book.

It has no pattern worth talking about and I would not recommend it as a hunting gun.

Thanks for the reply.
I don't plan on doing any hunting with the 590.
Just use it for Bad Guys !!

Thats the model I'm looking for. Did you find one some where? How much?

I have one, sans the speedfeed stock.  Its a great shotgun.  Seems much more sturdy than others I've seen and owned.

That would be model #51668. The same shotgun with a standard buttstock instead of a speedfeed stock is model #51663. That's the one I have. The buttstock is too long for some people, but you can replace it with a youth stock.

If you want to use a tactical sling or a buttstock shell pouch such as CQB Solutions, they attach over the speedfeed stock making it unusable.

TJ is right about how they pattern. One of these days, I'll post a pic of my M590A1 pattern at 25 yards. Not real pretty but still effective at that range.

As long as we're talking Mossy 590s, is it true that you would have to remove the bayonet lug to attach a surefire light?

I must have a bayonet lug, but I also want a light on my gun if the bad guys come at night, as they are inclined to do.  So am I S.O.L. or are there other acceptable lighting systems?

I have the 51668 as well.  Check out KY Imports for the best price I could find.

They actually make a light mount that mounts off you bayonet lug. I forgot who has them but have seen them.

Not the greatest pics, but here you go:

590 w/Surefire #623A01 foregrip(for 590 w/bayo lug)

Are my eyes decieving me or does your 590 have a heat shield and ghost sights?

Mossberg told me the shield was not compatable with the ghost ring sights and your photo would seem to indicate otherwise!

Charly: Mossberg sells them with both, so the person you talked to must have been "confused."

Blue_Monkey: Nice - no web stores even offered such a grip that I could find until I entered that exact model number in Google! Still, my personal lighting solution (I actually have a 590A1 but have not found a light for it) would require the ability to actually mount the bayonet at the same time. You would think a 90 degree offset mount could be made the same basic way.

For now, my night-time weapon of choice remains my pistol - with light in other hand.

Are there mag extensions for the 590's?

The heatshield will fit but does not go on in the normal manner. I had to be creative and force it on by pressing the front bracket over the barrel instead of sliding it on. If you are careful (I wasn't) you can do it without scratching the barrel.

I bought the Surefire#623A01 from www.ArizonaGunRunners.com for a good price. It is not listed in Surefire's current catalog, but it is designed specifically for the 590 w/bayo lug. I had to e-mail Surefire for the part#.

Blue Monkey,
How do you like that Sling?
It looks like a LOT of sling?
Thanks..

The sling is a www.CQBSolutions.com "SOP" Sling. I haven't actually tried it out yet but I've heard only good things about CQB slings.
