A friend has one of the polymer framed 1911s.
While blasphemous, I must admit that it is reliable.

They are made by BUL in israel fro CD.  They seem to have a small but loyal following.  I was just on their forum the other night and they will be introducig a ful line of metal 45s and 9mm over the next year.

I had a Charles Daly EFS for a few years.   It was a nice budget 1911 with alot of features for the price.  Kind of like what Taurus has tried to do with 1911's.  It is my understanding they were made by Armscor for CD.  I believe the slide and frame are cast leading to the lower price.  Mine was my first 1911 and I liked it.  I sold it when I got a Kimber CDP Pro II and actually had more issues with the Kimber.   The older CD pistols without the Novak style sights were the ones most people refer to when complaining about them.  I bought mine in 2005 and it had the Novak style sights.  I think the RIA tactical model is another one you can look at that is similar to the CD's.  If you are looking for a family heirloom I would suggest something else.  I you want a entry level 1911 at a milspec price that is not going to give you hammer bite CD will be fine.  David

They're made in the Philippines & I've yet to see ANY quality firearms come from there. I've seen NIB Daly 1911's at the range have their front sight fly off on their very first mag.

Lots better options out there, the Springfield Mil-Spec for starters.

Somehow, I doubt that.

I dealt with one about 10 years ago.

Unless they've improved considerably, I'd pass.

That damn thing was barely MOB (minute of barn)

I bought one about 7 years ago and it is a good pistol.  The pistol is not junk, but it is not a custom job either.

I also got mine at cost and I am not sure what they are charging these days.
