I really like both of these guns and the price difference is only $175, which would you pick for a carry gun? SW is model number 108288. Only thing is that I worry about the STI since it is blued steel and could rust.

Thanks
Matt

I might pick the Smith & Wesson over some of the other factory guns, but compared to STI it's no contest.  Go for the STI.  If you're worried about corrosion, get it hard chromed or get one of those moly-polymer coatings.

Handle them both - whichever feels better to you is right - I love the STI pistols (1911 + Texas logo = ), but the S&W 1911PD balances a lot nicer for me.

STI has very high build quality.

I have not thought the same of the S&W 1911s that I have seen.

While blued carbon steel isn't the best for CCW, you could have it coated.

I suggest www.trippresearch.com

I'd go with the STI.

Slide to frame hit will be better, as will the trigger.  Plus, the STI is made without MIM, unless things have changed.

Now if STI would come out with a lightweight frame...

Another strength of the STI guns is that they don't ruin things with some kind of firing pin block.  They're not necessary and they can and do cause a lot of reliability problems regardless of the design.

SW1911PD, I have the full size and love it! Mine rides my hip everyday in complete confidence on duty at work (and off duty). Accurate and never had a hiccup out of it.

The Ranger II's are very nicely finished, and nicely put together. Still waiting on the Trojan 5.0 for the wife....
