I just put some Simonvich gunner grips on my Kimber 1911 custom two. The gunner grips are slightly thicker than the stock ones they replaced. Now I am having difficulty hitting the slide release and I would like one that has a shelf that sticks out slightly further than the stock Kimber one. I am not looking for a "standard" extended slide stop that extends back towards the saftey, but rather one that is the same length, but sticks out slightly further from the frame (like .1 of an inch). I have heard the Wilson BP slide stop does stick out slightly further, is this true?

yes and it is a good replacement for the MIM mag catch that kimber has in place.

I've been looking into one of these myself. Are they drop-in or will I have to pay a smith?

its a drop in--you might require a little filing, but i doubt it

i got a question: does the WC BP slide stop match the bluing color of the Kimber, b/c, the WC extended one i got does NOT match the blueing--its more of a park color....?

Mine looks like black park as well. mates well enough to the Kimpro for now.

Measuring several factory Colt slide stops, I find they are .205" wide at the widest point, and that the shelf sticks out .118". With the Wilsons I have, they are .220" wide at the widest point, and the shelf again sticks out .118". For me, however, the Wilson feels like it sticks out less, and it's harder to hit for me on all my guns. I only use it because it's a strong part, and I have yet to hear of one breaking. The problem to me is that the pad is lower. I figure it might take a little time to get used to, but eventually I'll develop the muscle memory I need on these. You might look at the one Nighthawk Custom makes as an alternative, though I don't know if they stick out further.

As a side note, I put a Wislon in today and it will not lock back on empty Wilson mags, and all my mags have new or newr springs. Any other slide stop I have, be it Colt, Springfield, EGW, Ed Brown, etc., will lock it back. It's the first "bad" part I've gotten from Wilson in 10 years.

Got one of these on order from Brownells too (for my Micro Compact, to cure it's latest "quirk"). Wish I'd searched the EE first, KBlag would have saved me a couple bucks.

Does anyone know the difference between WIlson's Bullet Proof, and their "Standard Length" slide stop (hardened heat treated steel). The Bullet proof is alot more money. I wonder why they don't make these in the stock profile?

I just popped a Wilson factory plus slide stop into my Kimber Anniversary model. Went right in without any problems. Have not had a chance to test fire it yet.

I've installed several BP slide stops and all of them dropped in without any filing or modification. I might be lucky though.

I believe Caspians slide stop has a much more pronounced shelf. IIRC, this is the same one as Sig uses on the GSR. Take a look at it. I really like the profile.

Just a heads up, but we have the Wilson Bullet proof slide stops and other wilson parts in stock, so you dont have to pay 8-9 for shipping.

I like the Wilson BP slide stop much better. It's easier and faster to release the slide IMO. It didn't lock back on any of my empty Wilson mags either when I first installed it, but I filed/dremeled a slight groove for the slide stop plunger and it works great now.

Is the Wilson BP slide stop/Wilson Mag hold open issue common? Getting ready to replace a few parts on my Pre2 Kimbers. Not really worried about the profile as Im a "Slam-Rack" kinda guy.

I put a Wilson Bullet Proof slide stop in my Pro Raptor II and it was a drop-in install. And the pistol functions perfectly with it.

Have you thought of learning to NOT use the slide stop? None of the schools I've been thru teach the use of the slide stop except when manually locking back the slide.

Just some food for thought.
