I'm a relatively recent convert as I didn't buy my first 1911 until 2 years ago +/-. Up until then it had been Glocks since I bought my first one at 21 ten years ago. I still like the Glock and think that it was probably the best purchase for me at the time, but as wants and needs change I find that the 1911 fits my needs better now. I'm sure one day it will change again.

Age 7, in 1955. My Dad let me shoot one round in his issue pistol during his USAF training session. I have been hooked since that time. Charles the Gunsmith.

I think I got my first in 2002 or 2003. The 1911 has been my favorite since I was a kid in the 80's, never got to shoot one until I bought my first though (Kimber TLE II). Now I have a Kimber Tactical and a S&W 1911sc Commander.

I had my first symptoms in 1976....it became a chronic condition in 1978. Been downhill since then....

Oddly, I rarely own more than one 1911 at a time....I did have two for a while but sold it recently....

It started as a kid, seeing the 1911 in war movies, as part of the green plastic army men, etc. Just always new it was the pistol I wanted.

Late 1997, the "new" Kimbers had just come out and were all the rage. I couldn't find any dealer that could get one. One day, i jusut happened to be in North Charleston on libbo and went into Sports Authority. Inside their gun cabinet was brand new, plain jane Kimber Custom Classic. I wrote a check right on the spot! Had to ditch my fairly new Glock 23, but oh well!

Don't know the exact year but it started with my Dad's and the movies. I got my very own first one in Nov 2005. Wearing it now at work

2001 was my first one that I bought. but qualified in USMC in 1991. Got rid of the first one and now ive gotten back into it again. Im pretty sure ill be hanging on to this one.

Actually wanted one since about 1977 (I was under 21). 1980 I bought my first, a new, brushed nickle Combat Commander. Put it on layaway at a local dealer, picked it up a couple weeks later. I think it was $400 back then. Kept it untill finances forced it's sale around 1998. A year ago, I turned down the opportunity to buy it back (hits self repeatedly...) but currently have two SA Loaded, with a Kimber Desert Warrior on layaway... with plans for a Wilson CQB later this year

My first, a Norinco, was back in '01 about 6 weeks after I got my first decent paying job. I've loved'em since I was a kid though. I remember the first one I ever handled as well: a beautiful old Colt Gold Cup belonging to my college pistol team coach. That only finalized the sickness for me. I'll get one just like it someday.

2003 - the day of my 21st birthday I bough a Glock 17. A week later I traded it in at a pawn shop for a 1911. Been happy ever since.

I also grew up watching WWII movies and always wanted a one.In 1987,a coworker borrowed his father's nickel plated series 70 gov't for me to shoot.It was love at first sight and i wanted one badly,but we just had a first baby and little money.In 1989 my wife (Bless her) gave me a SS gov't model for my bithday!I was overjoyed!
Many say that it is an old relic past it's time.To me a beatifully finished 1911 is a work of art!I hope they stick around for another 100 years.JMB was a man of genius.

2002, a friend of mine bought a Springfield Milspec. It was a sweet assed shooter, and he was scary good with it too. I knew that they were more than "just another pistol" from then on.

Currently I'm saving for my first one. Either a YoBo, Wilson, Kimber Warrior....who knows?

1980. I was twelve. My dad let me shoot his accurized Colt. As soon as I turned 21 I bought myself a used Springfield. I have had several different 1911's through the yars. I have tried alot of other types of pistols. But nothing ever felt better in my hand than the 1911. I currently own a Gold Cup Trophy and a Springfield G.I. Champion.
