Is it necessary to replace it?  Can/does the system cause any problems?

PS - I appologize if I am dredging up an old subject.  I have been lurking to gleen information on this and many other 1911-related questions I have before doing Koolaid shots with the rest of you, and have not yet had the ILS question answered to my satisfaction.

Don't know.  Haven't touched it on my Springfield and hasn't caused me any probelms in 2000 or so rounds shot.

It SHOULDN'T cause you any grief, but if this is a carry pistol why take even a remote chance is how I think.
