my mag catch is really stiff and take a LOT of pressure to drop the mag. is there a way to adjust the spring to make it drop easier?

You can get different weight springs from Brownells.

STI offers a lighter weight mag release spring.

Be careful how light you go on the spring. When I first got my STI it would drop the mags out during a match, I made sure I didn`t hit the mag release also. Changed to a Wolff spring and no more problem.

Cut one coil and try it again.

I would not cut more than one. Tried it - didn't work for me.

May be more of a button length problem than a spring pressure problem. I like the Ed Brown extended mag catch on my guns, using a stock length spring. The button is long enough to get more pressure on the mag catch when I purposely depress it, but not so long that I unintentionally depress it.

Bewared - a new match catch does require a slight bit of fitting.

Are you sure the inside of the catch is smooth?
That might make the pressure needed to operats seem highter than nessary
