Mostly just wondering whats the difference between a 1991 and standard series 80 1911. I know mine is not as fancy but otherwise looks identical.

The name!  1991's did come with plastic triggers and MSH's for awhile.  Also the 1991 finish wasn't as nicely finished, mine had lots of machine marks that a standard blued Colt would never have.

That's what I thought. The first thing I did was replace the trigger with a nice Chip McCormick carbon fiber job. Not sure if it's a ton better but sure looks cool. Don't mind the plastic msh but I might if I ever drop it!

You wouldn't hurt a thing....it's a fairly flexible Nylon derivative.....

I actually prefer the nylon MSH on my carry gun, for what it's worth... it saves a couple ounces.
