Hey All,

Anyone here have a suggestion for a 1911 to carry on duty. I like the Kimber but they are a pain to take apart. I was thinking about the Springfield or Para.

What price range are we talking about? My first choice would be a Springfield Professional model, but they're kinda pricey. I'd go for the Springfield TRP. I love mine

In that case, here's what you do. Work some sort of miracle and get Larry Vickers to build you a 1911 then get a Springfield Professional so you have something to carry while you wait.

Why is the Kimber any more difficult to take apart than any other 1911?

+1 I do not have a Kimber but do not understand why it would be harder to take apart.?

Well, in highly technical terms, they do not come apart like a regular 1911. You have to plug this little hole with a tool then take it apart. When I had my Custom Compact it would sometimes take me 30 min to get it apart for routine cleaning. I was raised up shooting my grandads Remington Rand Gov Model and maybe I just am a traditionalist.....

Me thinks you're gonan kick yourself in the ass.

I never once used that stupid tool they give you to take it apart.

Take it apart like a normal 1911. Jsut don't hold the grip safety as you do it.

That is messed up.....That is the reason I traded it for a another one. That was the best shooting 1911 I have ever had.

If your a traditionalist, you could always take a look at a colt.

You are aware that only the compact/pro and ultra's require slightly different disassembly as they are a bushingless design, right?

And It takes me no longer to disassemble one of them than it does my fullsize conventional Kimber 1911.

Me thinks someone knows less than they think they do.

I think that you are right. Mine was a custom compact. When I bought mine it did not come with a tool. You had to do it with a paper clip. You had to bend it just right and put it in the little hole and if you did not get it just right you could not pull the slide off. Oh well, that was about 7 years ago and that gun is long gone. I think I will get another one shortly. The TLE looks nice...
