COLT; Wilson; Ed Brown; Baer; Rock River; SIG; S&W; any number of custom builders...there are tons of them out there!
At "reasonable" prices, Colt, Springfield and Kimber, with S&W's standard model bringing up the rear IMO. "Cost no object"?...Brown, Rock River, Wilson; "custom"; in that order. I DO prefer the older, non-internal-safety designs. |

There is also Para Ordnance and Dan Wesson. I'm a Springfield fan myself. Look at as many as possible before you buy.

I've said this several times in various posts. IMO the best deal on a .45ACP 1911 if you're on a "budget" is the Kimber 25th Anniversary Custom. Check Gunbroker.com and Auctionarms.com.
They can usually be purchased for around $725-$750. |

I have a Tactical Custom II and it's proved to be a fine 1911 so far, in spite of the liberal use of MIM and enhanced tactical geegaws on it -- and in spite of my expectations.
 With the alloy frame, it's meant for folks who like the reliability of the 5" guns without the weight of a steel frame. It's primarily a carry piece for me. I'd recommend a plain Anniversary model. |
