I just got a SA ultra compact 1911 from a friend who needed some cash. He said that the gun has about 300 rounds through it and he was the original owner.  Took it to the range yesterday and shot it at 5 and 10 yards, the POI is about 12 inches higher then the POA at both distances.  Figured it might be me so I shot my TRP at the same ranges and it shot fine. Tried the compact again and got the same results as when I originally fired it. Tried both WWB and Federal bulk pack ammo.

Any suggestions on what might be making this shoot like it is?

Your front sight is likely too short.

I hope that is not the case as the front sight can't be changed.

Call Springfield Armory, they're easy enough to get a hold of....
