I have a chance of getting a springfield 1911a1 for $500 w/ 7mags and holdster. It has 300 shots fired through it. He bought it for 650 plus all the mags 2 months ago. Is this a good deal? And how is the quality on these. Thanks everyone

The price acceptability depends on whether its a G.I. model or Mil-Spec. Both have 1911-A! rollmarked on the slide––at least the catalog shows them that way. The Mil-Spec (model PB9108L) sells new for $599 (parkerized) but they are frequently marked up from there. If you're being offered a true Mil-Spec (not G.I.Mil-Spec as that's the G.I. model) the $500 is a good price assuming good condition as you note. If its a G.I. (model PW9108L or G.l. Mil-Spec) they sell new for $499 so a used price of $500 wouldn't be so hot. The Mil-Spec is well worth the extra $$, although both are fine pistols for the money.

Depends on the magazines and holsters. If they are Wilson Combat magazines and a nice holster that can be worth big bucks. If they are typical SA 7 round magazines and a cheap plastic holster I'd offer $450.

Its a mil spec. It comes with 3 standard mags and 3 10 round mags. It also comes with the original holdster, one for under the arm, the same one for the belt and one that goes inside the pants.

I love Springfields. The Imbels are great. I shoot them all the time, and I cannot tell the difference. Go for it.

Guy, im not "trolling", that statement is %100 percent pure truth. If you don't like the fact that someone is telling you exactly what a springfield 1911 is, well I guess you have a personal issue.

It's just amazing that people think an Imbel FAL is the epitome of well built construction and good materials, but if a 1911 rolls out of the same factory, it's imported trash. Gun snobs need to get over themselves.

Sorry for derailing the thread a little PR2010. Sounds like you got a pretty good deal on that mil-spec. Those seem hard to come by as they're typically in higher demand because the features they have on them make them easier to shoot and easier/cheaper to modify if you choose to do that. Make sure to post some pics when you get it!

I have a Springfield MilSPec and like it very much. After the break in period, about 300 rounds, it has run 100%. Never had a Colt's do that.

Lot's of builders of 1911 pistols around here really prize the Springfield frame and choose it over all others for the starting point to a race gun.

I've had occasion to avail myself of Springfield's customer service and learned their service is outstanding!!! I would never hesitate to purchase one of their products after experiencing their quality service.

I'd jump on the deal you describe. In fact, it's one of those you should never walk away from in the first place in my book.

I would be curious to hear your thoughts on springfield's professional model.

Is the model number stamped on the frame?

I have a similar deal offered to me - a Springfield 1911 .45 - in trade for a Winchester Model 70.

I have a Colt 1911A1 Series 80 but I don't know anything about Springfields.

What should I ask the guy about it?

the model is not stamped on the frame

just ask him which model it is

GI - similar to the USGI colts

Milspec - slightly upgraded, easy to spot with the slanted slide serration

just go on springfields site and look at the models

Another way to tell:

A Springfield G.I. model will have a serial number that begins with "ww..............". I believe this model also comes from the factory in a green plastic box.

A Mil-Spec model will have a serial number that begins with "N...................." OR "NM........................" and comes in a blue box.

Definitely a Mil-Spec. Brazilian variety.

Its had a little work––the hammer and grip safety are non stock. Don't think the long trigger is either. Grips as well. The MSH may be aftermarket as well. Can't recall whether curved or straight is stock.

All-in-all a very nice looking pistol.

call springfield and they can give you the info on the gun based on the serial number.
