I inherited the above P38 and really don't know much about them. All the numbers match. The serial number is 1402 with an h at the end on the slide and on the frame. The slide also has the letters cyq inscribed on the left side. On the right side there are 3 eagles with the one in the middle on top of (name slips me right now) Nazi symbol. There are also some of those eagles on the barrel as well as on the frame after the h with the serial number.

I see what the 'cyq' means but do the rest of the markings mean anything specific?

The holster came with the gun as well as 3 magazines. 2 of the magazines say p38v with one of those having a 4 digit number on the base plate. The last magazine says P 38 with the letter U under it. Are all these magazines German? Thanks for your help!

Nice looking P38, now get it out of that beautiful Luger holster. While the gun may fit it can damage the holster which if real is worth a considerable amount of money. cyq was the code for Spreewerk a company that mainly made large 88mm guns. Most show crude polish and are not fitted as well as a AC or a byf. They are being nice guns though. For the correct mag you are looking for an Eagle 88 proof as this was the Waffen Ampt for Spreewerk.

Its funny that you mention that its in the wrong holster. When I first saw it it was in a WW2 1911 shoulder hoster.
