I'm going to be getting a new 45 pistol as a wedding present.  I've pretty much narrowed it down to compact USP, Sig 220 Carry, and HK 45 compact.

Will probably be using whichever one I get as primary CCW.

The USP Compact is a great pistol and what I would choose out of the three. Are you also considering the M&P compact?

I'll probably get a M&P eventually but since this is going to be a gift I thought I'd go crazy and spend a lot.

I'd probably get a Glock 36 before I got a Glock 30SF.  That being said, I wanna get the most out of the gift.

Go with either the USPc or HK45c. They are basically the same exact gun with the only major difference being the different grip. Pick the one that feels best to you. When it comes to a non-1911 .45 the HK's are hard to beat.

Actually there are quite a few differences between the USPc and the HK45c.  One being the ambidextrous slide lock, then there's the Magazine release which is a bit larger and easier to manipulate, Lets not forget the HK45c comes with an Oring for the barrel, Also you can get a 10 round Magazine for the HK45C, OHHH and the MIL-STD-1913 (Picatinny) rail that you can mount a light to instead of the USP Proprietary Rail,  ALSO the Day-Glo sights (Which I would replace with traditional night sights.) Front cocking serations, Different safety, Also to my understanding you can switch the safety from left to right (with additional components) or have a safety on both sides with the HK45c which IIRC you cannot do with the USP.

SO I would say there are quite a few differences besides the grip (which is adjustable BTW).  That being said HK45c for all the improvements listed above.

I'll go against the majority and suggest the P220. I have a new one and it's just been super impressive. Accurate and reliable.

I just went through LFI1 with a sig 220 carry and I highly recommend it. Relaibe and accurate.

On principle, I vote against plastic guns. Aside from that I dislike the trigger geometry of the HKs. I like SIGs. The 220 carry at least doesn't have the stupid rail on it that SIG now thinks most of their guns need.

I got a P220 Carry SAO several months ago and it has become one of my favorite carry guns.  I love SAO and .45!

I say P220. Try to find an older West German 220 if you can. They are better guns than the newer 220s. You don't gain any advantage with getting the newer Carry models. The grip is the same length. That is what counts when carrying.

I've tried to LIKE the HK45, HK45c, and the 9mm version, but.....I can't stand the trigger guard.

My finger drags on the top of the trigger guard, below the trigger everytime I dry fire it.

I don't know if it's the curve of the trigger, or what, but, I don't have this problem with my USP45c.

SO, I Vote for the USP45c.  But, grab them, grip them, dry fire them, and find what fits YOU best.

Find a range that actually has those weapons if you can, and shoot them, and THEN make your desicsion.

All the bells and whistles don't matter if the gun doesn't fit your hand....
