Guys,
I want to get a .22 lr conversion kit for my new Kimber Stainless II.

Does any kit hold open after the last round is fired?  So far I can not find one.  What kit do you recommend?  I've heard that Marvels is the most accurate, but I'm also considering Kimbers or Ciener's.

What conversion kit do you own?  I'm looking for one at least as accurate as my Ruger 22/45.

The two most "famous" brands seem to be Ceiner & Jarvis. I don't remember which one is which but one is steel & the other is aluminum. The steel model seems to be the better fit as aluminum will "gall" the steel.

I had the Colt conversion with the floating chamber but none of the more current offerings.
Accuracy, to me, would take precedence over a slide locking open on a .22 anyway.
I'm still digesting Bob's statement about aluminum galling the steel...it's late, I'm stuck at work, besides.
If say a Sig or Beretta has an aluminum frame and a steel slide, that's ok.
But put an aluminum slide on a steel frame, it galls, even a .22?
I would hope a decent alloy is used along with some oil to prevent any galling.
I could see it peening where the hammer strikes.
I was thinking of the aluminum .22 unit myself, should I rethink it?

I don't know if you can find any current production .22 conversion units that will hold the slide open after the last shot.

As far as finding a good unit, I shot a friend's Marvel Precision unit and was amazed at the accuracy with the regular Winchester .22LR.  I have heard that with match-grade ammunition very respectable groups can be had.

I understand that the magazines aren't cheap (nor is the kit), but we had no malfunctions.  It seems that the weakest link in most 1911 .22 conversions is the magazine's ability to get a fresh round into position.  So maybe a premium on the magazine is not too high a price to pay.

Take this with a grain of salt since I have no experience with any other conversion units, and do not own the Marvel one.  YMMV

Kimber, Wilson, Jarvis, Marvel and Ciener kits area available, but none of them have a functional slide lock.

I am also in the market for a .22 LR conversion for my 1911.

It is very confusing to say the least to select one.  Typically not a common item at my favorite IPSC gun store.

From what I can tell:

1) marvel - most accurate(?), aluminum side, bo-mar sites
2) jarvis - steel and only one that says slide locks back
3) ace custom - discontinued but still available?
4) ciener - very popular/common (oldest next to colt ace?)
5) kimber - aluminum
6) wilson - safety works
7) EAA  - very little info

My primary use with it is 50 foot prep for IPSC matches. I want something that is accurate which for me comes down to sights (my eyes are going)
