I'm wanting a .45 1911 or maybe some other type of pistol for carry.  Glocks are out of the question.  Preferably a Compact or Commandeer type pistol.  Welcome any opinions and suggestions.

Thanks

I just started carrying a Sig P220, very accurate out of the box; and it is thinner than my last carry gun.

I second the Kimber CDP.

What do you all think of the Kimber Eclipse Pro II?  I love the look of it and have been eyeing it at my gunstore for quite sometime. I also love the look of the Tactical Pro II.

I would consider sticking with a 5 inch barrel 1911 to keep the .45 highly potent. Velocity drops off rapidly with shorter tubes, but for a small DA look at a CS45, it tucks away nicely. Just keep in mind if you choose hollow point carry ammo, a 5 inch tube will be needed for it to perform. Otherwise you are better off with a wadcutter, flat nose or ball, all lead helps alot.

I once had a SA Micro Compact and didn't like it at all.  I'd like to stay at Commandeer size or above... just because I like the fullsize grip.  I just found out the Tactical is aluminum and that pissed me off .  I believe i'm going to go with a Eclipse Pro II or Eclipse Target II.  If Wilson made the CQB in commandeer i'd be set.  I currently have the CQB fullsize but paid a lot for it and would hate to see it get banged up or something similar for CCW.  Thanks for all the suggestions.

Much of what M199 said about .45 ACP ammo is true. But the Winchester Ranger loads (both 230 gr standard and +P) and the Speer 230 gr Gold Dot do well out of barrels down to 4". And now for a pistol opinion, which is what you asked about, I have always been fond of the Sig P220's.

I agree with M199.

I carry a SA OD Loaded .45ACP in a Milt Sparks Summer Special in the warm weather and in the cold weather in a sholder holster.

Either a Commander or Officer's frame in aluminum.  Steel framed .45's get awful heavy after a while.  I carry a Colt LW Commander as my main pistol and I absolutely love it.

Kimber CDP here. I like the Eclipse too, but it is a tad large for easy concealment I think.
