I'm back in the market for a 1911 and would like to know what everyone thinks would be the best bang for my buck. I would like to have the best quality 1911 in the 900 and under price range and no shitty parts

SA Loaded in the mid-$600s (best bang for the $$$s, unless you want to customize, get the SA mil-spec for ~$400+); older kimber custom IIs (i like these better than the loaded SAs)
SW 1911s, ~$700-800s Kimber Warrior, SA Operator ~$900-$1000, if you look around |

I like some kimbers but I heard they have added a new safety or something? Kinda turned me off to them; that and the whole external extractor thing.
It seems like SA is the budget 1911 of choice on these forums, do they have any MIM parts? Are colts made any better nowadays? |

Those are the TRP Operators. The MC Operators are usually somewhere between $900 and $1000. |

The only 1911 that you'll more than likely find without MIM parts for under $1K new, is the Sig GSR.

Until I got a deal on a new Springfield TRP for $1000, I had figured to buy one for the $1000 range - after much searching, I had originally settled on the SW1911 DK for $899 locally (there is also a more expensive DK model, I am talking about the cheaper one).
It has a magwell, adj sights, grooves on the front strap, and a lot of other nice features. |

I bought a New warrior on the EE for $900.00 and love it. Keep your eyes on the EE and something will pop up.

If you mean close to a thousand I would get a GSR Revoloution if you mean several hundred under I would say Springfield loaded. Kimber and S&W would certainly be well worth it though. It would be a matter of which set up you liked the best. I did see a comander sized kimber with a light rail that I would love to have and the Raptor also would be a great pistol.

The S&W 1911DK is around a grand, and is pretty tricked out. My 1911SC is a wonderful gun, only ran $650 new. Flawless so far.

Been shooting 1911's a long time and have more than a few. The one I've seen that tempted me at that price was a S&W 1911SC commander size. Wasn't thrilled about the external extractor but really was drawn to the overall package.

The GSR is a hell of a pistol and can be found right around $900. I'm not crazy about the external extractor, but if I were looking for something that didn't need modified to make me smile, that would likely be it.
You could also get a SA loaded model and replace some parts. The big one would be the extractor. If you so desired, you could also get a C&S fire control set and a Wilson bullet proof slide stop and you'd be pretty close to your $900 budget and have eliminated the bulk of the MIM parts. You would at least be rid of the parts that are most likely to give future problems. |

I've had no problems at all with my Kimber Custom II after many, many rounds. They around $620 plus tax.
Has anyone had an MIM part fail or is this just "the sky is falling"? Most manufacturers in this price range use them. |

I would only consider three 1911's under $900 for serious use and even they would go to a qualified 1911 gunsmith for a reliability job.

Getting away from the big manufactures the Dan Wesson Patriot is about as good as it gets for a semi custom 1911. They are so good CZ bought them out just recently. CZ is all about value and they saw the value in the DW line of 1911's.

Sights are over rated. You just point and shoot.
Enjoy that WWII GI 1911. That's a really good gun, especially for under $500. I have one myself. |

No one has said anything about it but...........
I really wanted a 1911 for a while that i would be able to carry , but be accurate enough to hit targets at long distance ( just for fun at the range). I picked up a para LDA CCO 3.5" . I have to say , its an awesome pistol out of the box , extremely crisp trigger pull , no cocking spur , and best of all , it came with a match barrel. Internal para extractor which is supposed to be one of the best , along with a bunch of other goodies , a lil over $800 new :) |

I just came back from the range.
I shot 200 rounds of Winchester 100 round White box FMJ ammo. The Springfield Armory G.I. 1911 performed well. The mags sucked. I have the SA mag that FTF a few times. I picked up one used Colt 8 round mag (with a Shooting Star follower) that fed the best but not perfect and one used G.I military mag that sucked the worst. The higher the round count, the better the pistol shot. I never shot or owned a .45 or a 1991 before so it my virgin outing. I do have to say, most of the time, I go shooting, my hand would be sore at one point or another. This 1911 is the most comfortable gun I've ever shot. No soreness at all. It fit me hand perfectly. I highly recommend the SA G.I. 1911 to anyone that wants a very nice entry level 1911. The Lakeland gun show is this weekend and I plan on picking up a set of military style grips and about 5 Wilson Combat mags. Everyone raves about the Wilson mags. It's probably going to be the 8 round mags. An extra round it's a bad thing. ____________________________ |
