Something along the lines/size of the Hellcat by springfield....

Is there anything out there?

And damn if .40 is running almost $1rd already

I'd probably go HK USP Compact if looking for a 40 to carry.

I like my Glock 23. I really like using a DeSantis IWB Dual Carry II holster and use it for my Glock 42 and full sized 1911. They all conceal well but it is just a matter of weight with the 23 being in the middle of the 42 and 1911.

ETA: i guess I was dreaming. You could look at a shield

I recommend the Springfield XDS 3.3 .40

Probably a shield, though I'm partial to the M&P line.

G23 or Sig P250/320 Carry.

A G23 has worked well for me for several years.  Sometimes I've carried a G27 when clothing required me to carry somewhere else.

I have both a USPc in 40 and a Glock 23 and my vote goes for the USPc. Night and day difference in my opinion. The difference is even more pronounced when I swap barrels and start shooting 357sig. My USPc is the second best 40 gun I’ve shot, behind my P226.

Shield 40, Taurus G2C .40, APX Compact .40, PX4 SC .40, P250SC, G27 gen 4+.

A buddy's Sig P229 (which he bought circa early 2000s) was definitely the most accurate .40 pistol I ever shot. Better than Glock 22s/23s and the older S&W 40XX-series guns.

Too bad I let one or two 229s slip past me a few years back on the LGS's pre-owned shelves. Some came with 2 or 3 mags, box and papers,

That was back, pre-panic, when .40 guns, and especially ex-LE .40 pistols, were showing up in droves on the Used Shelf, as everyone was abandoning the caliber.

If I carry a .40 smaller than my P07 it's an FNS Compact in .40.  Ten rounds with the ability to use the full sized 14 round magazines.

I'm used to carrying the P07.  When I carry the FNS C I keep thinking I've lost it somewhere, it's "presence" is so small compared to the bigger P07.

I know, they don't make FNS-Cs anymore but they are out there still.

I "found" 7 boxes of 40 S&W yesterday that I forgot about after buying the Dillon 40 cal dies

I'll never shoot them in my CT40

I vote Shield .40.

I own the 9mm version and my BIL has the .45 version- I like them both. The Shield is about the smallest I'd go in .40.

Or a P229 in 40. Possibly a P224 or a P229C if you can find one.

The OP wants a gun the size of the Hellcat, and you suggest a P229???

The 229 is damn near the size of a G19.....

any more reports of kabooms in the shield .40?

i'm waiting for the gen5 Glock 23 to be back in stock at my local LE dealer.  Hoping my 357 barrel from my 32 fits in it.

My USPc .40 is the smoothest .40 that I have owned or shot. The "Recoil Reduction System" works very well.

I'd go Glock 27 Gen4 or Glock 23 Gen4.  There are smaller options like the Shield or the XDS but the G27 is pretty small and will accept larger Glock mags as backup.

This is the only thing I’d consider for a subcompact .40 cal.

Might want to find one soon being Sig is dropping the .40 from production.  Expects others to do the same.

Thread makes me wish I'd bought an LE trade-in M&P40 if for no reason than to pimp it out like this one:

With all those ex LE guns sold to the public this past year the .40 caliber isn’t going better. I know they make quality ammo like Gold Dot, HST’s, Ranger, Golden Saber, but I guarantee that someone will make a round with better ballistics and they will end up in police holsters again. Glock introducing the Glock 22, 23, and 27 Gen 5’s will only help the .40 S&W, even with companies like Sig Sauer dropping them off their 2021 production line up
