Ever since I've joined the Navy the amount of guns I've shoot has of course went up. I'm in love with shooting both on and off civilian and mil ranges and since I'm only a month and some change from turning 21ive been looking at handguns for carry. I love revolvers and plan on picking a Ruger Redhawk eventually. Since I'm pretty big i plan on carrying it for for hunting and OC/CCW once i leave this command or hopefully the barracks. Personally I'd love to see Ruger come out with a 6" 410/ 454 revolver styles after the Redhawk or GP100.
Whats your dream or perfect revolver you had on mind? How you found anything close to it or is it just up in the air? |

I think the N-frame Smiths are the most perfect for me.
I have a 25-13 Mountain gun in .45 Colt that I'll probably be buried with. |

i like this size revolver.
and snub noses. the super long barrels that are much heavier do nothing for me. if i am going on a hike and i wanted to open carry something i would be that 2.5 inch revolver |

Ruger Speed Six with 3" barrel
no longer made.. but shape, smoothness, enough weight to give you some umph when shooting 357s.. yet not so heavy you felt you were carrying a boat anchor on your hip. Regret selling mine.. I also love old school Smith N Frames, model 21-4 and 22-4 in both the Thunder Ranch configurations and the case blued reissues.. |

SW 3" M13 /M65 roundbutt... a 3" M640 might make an interesting carry gun

I really wish they made the model 58 in stainless and 45 ACP. I'd use 250s at 1000 from moon clips.

5.5" Redhawk in .41 Mag is the one I'll take to my grave.
I have others from .32 S&W to .44 Mag, but the Redhawk is my hands-down favorite. |

I have been a revolver guy for the most part for over 30 years now. My favorite is the k medium frame size smith and wessons. Great for carry and balance and shoot well for me. Tried I did, but simply do not care for the larger L and N frames. A 3-4 inch barrel k frame ( I am an old school blued fan) is my perfect. For icore I use an old (early 1950's) 4" combat masterpiece, for bullseye shooting a six inch model 14 (38) and 6 inch model 17(22). One of my primary carry guns is a 2" model 36 j frame 38. I reload, so can make 38 cast bullet reloads for about $6 for 50. No spring replacement schedules or concerns with wearing out magazines. I have only ever had one (out of dozens over the years) smith revolver that was not exceedingly accurate. I even had a very beat up looking model ten that could hold sub 5 inch fifty years groups. If the shooter is up to the task the revolver will be more accurate at extended range than any modern standard production autoloader.

My own personal list:
S&W 681 (4 inch fixed sight L frame in 357) S&W 65 (K frame 357, I wish I could find a round butt grip 3" barrel, but have a 4" right now) S&W 442 (5 shot alloy frame DAO) S&W 657 (Lew Horton special, 3" 41 magnum) Manhurin 3" 357 Also still hoping to return a 625 (S&W 45acp) back into the stable, somewhere between 3-5" barrel. Obviously you can see I'm partial to S&W, but I've owned Ruger GP-100's, Speed-Six's and Vaquero's, and they always went bang, just not as finely tuned IMHO as the S&W. If I could afford it I would probably own a Mateba and a Korth as well, plus I'd love to own the one they made back in the 80's that would accept basically ALL 9mm/38/357 rounds through the special cylinder, (off to google it so I can at least post the name here) Found it, the Medusa M47. There is a member here who has a revolver that was custom done by (I think) Karl Sokol of Sokol's Custom Guns, and it's a 3" K frame S&W with a round butt and parkerized finish, the thing is beautiful. |

Best trigger of any Revolver I have ever shot is my Smith & Wesson model 1917 (technically it's a 1937)
Fixed sights suck, but moon clips are awesome. Balance is great too due to a fairly thin barrel profile and only being 5.5" long. Other than that, it's really hard to beat the modularity of a Dan Wesson. |

S&W Model 19-2, made within two months or so of when I was born. Previous owner must have shot 158gr magnum rounds as it was sighted in perfectly for the ammo I was using. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/johnrippert/SampWModel19-2aS_zpsjuksnget.jpg View Quote I agree with the K Frame. |

I think the S&W Model 65 Lady Smith is the perfect revolver for carry and general use. In fact the only thing I don't like about them is the "Lady Smith" script on the right side. Well that and the fact that I can't find one at anything approaching a reasonable price. A 4" Model 19 with standard barrel, not the heavy barrel, is a close second but still not the same.
For concealed carry I like the 442/642 and for large caliber I like the 29/629s and the Redhawks in .44 and .45 (not a fan of the Super Redhawks). |

I love my SS 6" GP100. It wears Eagle grips and shoots like a dream. I used to have a SP101 that I would carry on occasion, loved that gun as well. A S&W model 19 is a classy looking wheel gun, and my dream is a SS 6" Colt Python.

A blued L-frame Smith .357 with a heavy no lug barrel.
They got so damn close with the .357 Mountain Gun. |

I like revolvers but I don't... its hard to explain. A love/hate relationship.
I really don't like J frames (though the 640 is very interesting), but I do dig the K's. L's and N's are my favorites. I am very happy with my 686, but I have a real nagging feeling I need a 627 V Comp. I really dig an 8 shot moonclip revolver. Not much interest in Ruger, but I do have a curiosity for the 44SPL, I may go for the new GP100. I really like top breaks, but not a lot of great options. I really do like my Chiappa Rhino. I could go for another one in 9mm. |

4" 686
Very reasonable. Very obtainable. For me, there is no other revolver that I want. |

Custom 3" 681 round butt conversion with Tritium front sight.

* * * Whats your dream or perfect revolver you had on mind? How you found anything close to it or is it just up in the air? View Quote Top of the Wish List for my Dream Wheelie would be for Ruger to bring out a RedHawk, actually two models, chambered in 10mm Magnum - which means it would also fire the 10mm AUTO and the .40S&W cartridges, all using standard 10mm moon clips. One wheelie that can fire three different cartridges, having widely different power levels, with moon clips to provide for quick, fumble-free reloads ... The first 10mm mag RedHawk would be a 4.2" model with the Hogue monogrip; The second 10mm mag RedHawk would be a 7.5" model with standard grips. This would be the "hunter" model. Should be a perfectly awesome critter-slayer shooting hardcast loads. You can still get 10mm Magnum brass. I've looking at 100pc unfired as I type this. A few years ago, before selling it to fund another project, I'd strongly considered sending my 1st Gen 6.5" S&W 610 revolver to well-known custom 'smith Hamilton Bowen to do a "conversion" of the cylinder to 10mm mag specs. If you read up on it, he's done a few of these conversions on his clients' Smith 610s. But as much as I liked the shooting attributes of my 610 (great factory trigger and SUPER accurate), I'd like to see a 10mm Magnum built on the RedHawk frame, just for the long-term durability of pounding magnum level loads through it .... Heck, I'd even be satisfied if all Ruger did was offer ONE RedHawk in "standard" 10mm AUTO, maybe the 4.2" model. Off mine would go immediately to Mr. Bowen for the aforesaid Magnum conversion, and no doubt a trigger job too, at which point I'd arrive at the same result. |
