So I got about 600$ burning a hole in my pocket. I want a steel pistol, no polymer frame stuff, and in 9mm. Not a fan of the Berretta 92s, so I know I'm gonna pass on that. What I do have my eyes on is a CZ 75B. Thought about a Sig 226, but the 800-900$ tag on them turns me off a hair. Wondering what you all would recommend for someone in my position. Not new to pistol shooting or anything, just seeking like minded folks' opinions.

So is a metal framed pistol is what you're looking for? Berettas and most SIGs have aluminum frames, not steel. There are some "ST" SIGs out there with steel frames. Glocks, M&Ps, HKs, and XDs have about as much steel going on as Berettas and most SIGs. I don't know anything about CZs, can't help you there.

If you're looking for an all steel, including frame, 9mm, I'd be looking no further than a Browning Hi Power.

It's really hard to go wrong with a CZ

Get a 75B, some extra Mec-Gar hi cap mags and be happy.

The trigger will break in very nicely in 500 or so rounds, so don't be put off if it is initially a bit on the "gritty" side.

They are also very accurate.

Mine is one of my very favorite pistols.

Those are the Mec-Gar 19 round mags.

Take a look at the CZ P-01. I bought my wife one a couple of years ago, very nice shooter.

my mistake, i meant just metal framed in general. whether its steel or aluminum isnt a deal breaker for me. Im just looking for the ridgidity of a metal pistol. Tired of the 'flimsy' feel of polymer framed pistols. And thanks to all for the input.

blitzpig, did you go with the decocker as well or the safety. i like the idea of a DA/SA with a safety. I intend to shoot some IDPA with this new pistol and was leaning toward the CZ. It'd be nice to just have a safety and not have to fiddle with a decocker.

I never considered the decocker CZs, just personal preference.

I'd rather carry cocked and locked and don't care for the idea of decocking a loaded pistol personally.

Mine is a standard model, has a safety.

Take a look at the controls on the pic of the P-01, that is a decocker.

Hi-Power for double stack; SIG P6 for single stack. I'm averse to slide mounted safeties so YMMV. Not a fan of CZs either.

I went with a BHP as seeing a CZ 75 detail stripped pretty much cured me of wanting to own one.

You can always go this route, although the price just jumped $45 yesterday because CTD went out of stock after having them for 3 days(I can't believe bud's has had them for nearly a week as it is). They only show up about every 6-7 months, I have to pick up mine from the local FFL in about two hours myself

. You could always get the 45 or .40 and get a conversion to 9mm as well, the 9mm's are in high demand and come and go the fastest and hence, cost more. You can also check you local store to see if their distributor still has any, they can get them local for pretty much the same price, probably less. Most local stores don't even realize they exist unless someone asks.

I just got a CZ-85B. I love the thing. I put a Cajun Gun Works trigger in it and it feels like a 1911 SA.

I vote for a 3rd generation S&W, a BHP, or a 1911 in 9mm from RIA. All of those are within your $600 price range.

Used High Powers seem to be cheap right now. Probably the flood of surplus models. Just got a used but new looking blue MKIII for $500 from a commercial online seller. You could get a new FEG High Power for even less.

Intersting. CZ-75 or BHP... I'm thinking between those two as well.

Used Sigs are reasonibly cheap. $475 police trade in Sig P226s. I bought my 1989 Herndon VA W German P226 for a little over $500 shipped IIRC. I have an affinity for things made during the Cold War.

I like the S&W 3rd gens and the Hi Power. Haven't had more than 100 rounds or so on a CZ so I can't really say...

If your eyeing a CZ, you probably wouldn't be disapointed with the purchase of one. The SP01 is my current favorite. This one's had the compition hammer installed by Cz custom.

I think I know what you mean. With my hand size, I either have to shift my grip to be able to thumb the safety and mag release (no way in hell am I reaching the slide release, lol), or I have to use an uncomfortable grip that doesn't afford a good finger-trigger relationship.

Look into the Baby Desert Eagle, aka the Jericho. These are built like tanks! I had a 9mm model; they come in .40 and .45 as well as (IIRC) .357 Sig.

Google CDNN Sports and take a look at their catalog of used S&W 9mm. I picked up a 6906 at my LGS, should have shopped CDNN first and saved $30 or so. You'll be looking at LE trade-ins..lot of buyers who say their purchase was BETTER than graded.

I've purchased from them[couple of CMMG .22 conversion units] and they fully satisfied my requirements as to quality, service and delivery. I deal with Steve Kellar.

You'd have enough of your $600 left over to buy a bit of ammunition ,holster, extra magazines, mag holder and a good gun belt.

Still have my original S & W Mod 59 bought from a Treasury Agent BIL of an OH hunting partner. I like S&W handguns.
