You do nice work!
I'd be interested in hearing how that finish holds up over time. |

From what I gather, regular GunKote and Norell Moly-Resin are the same. GunKote 1600, which I used for this, is less hard but more self-lubricating and is about the same as Dupont Teflon-S, Rogaurd, and Black-T.
I cured it at 300 degrees for an hour and 10 min. I used this finish because I could do it myself and it is a carry pistol. My second 1911, which is a full size and is done accept for the grip safety blending, will be a blued upper and a hard-chromed lower. |

Thanks. Brownells. I have the part number at work. I have the part number for every part on it, and part prices in Excel. I think it all came to around $1000 even but I skimped on nothing. The parts are about what you would find in a $2000 factory pistol or a $3500 custom gunsmith pistol. I spent time on things like internal finish and other details that Wilson skips over on a CQB and I will carry it every day until I find a reason to change.

Is the Barsto a fully ramped barrel? I'm in the middle of a very similar project. I'm using a caspian slide on a Springfield NM frame, but I'm really considering an officers Caspian now that I've seen that.

I tried lots of thumb safties and most did not cover the frame hole. Wilson, Ed Brown, C&S, and Chip McCormick were not good. Also most did not have the detent in the right place! Only Kings worked. I bet Caspians would be good also, but I never tried it.

Your pistol looks sweet -- I am curious if the grip sfety aligned that well automatically or if you did lots and lots of work on it. I know that would be hard for me to do with the Caspian frame, but not sure about your frame. One thing about hex-head screws -- did you know that Browning designed the slots to be turnable with a .45 case head? There is supposed to be slots. |

Damn that is one fine lookig pistol. What, if you don't mind me asking was the total build cost?
$1130 if you count everything, including the GunKote and the shipping costs of parts. I could have speced parts to get the price down to $900 or so with almost no real difference. |
No, this time I used a metal texture map. |
Thanks. I just took my time with it, and kept checking. It lined up pretty well, and I "blended" it to finish. |

Very, very nice! Thanks for the pics and the detailed parts list. Thumbs up!
BTW, what are you going to carry this beauty in? And how long did it take to put together? -YJ |
I am using a Comp-Tac Ghurka and it took 20-40 hours, not sure exactly.
very nice gun - simple, which i like. like the looks and it sounds like you went all quality. Very nicely done!
What pre-treatment did you do before K-Phos and GunKote. KG suggests sandblasting. I am in the process of building my own and am going to use the same finish you used.
I use 120 grit aluminum oxide. You can use 100 grit for a really flat look. All I have is 120 and it is too hard to change grit so I never do.
As long as you know to not use glass beads because the resin does not stick as well. Also, I hear the metal to 120-180 before spraying. A toaster oven is great for this because you can have it near you for small parts which cool almost instantly when hit with the vapor. |

words... cant.... describe... should have sent... a poet...
When it comes to sheer beauty, 1911s are king. |

He has every right to be. That is one disturbingly nice 1911. |

Holy shit thats one of the nicest 1911's I have ever seen. Very nice work indeed.
Nice Job!
I am looking on Brownells WebSite for something you didn't include in your list....But I will need on mine..... Part#BIG-SET-OFNUTS to start a 1911 project. Alternate Part#NERVS-OF-STEEL MT |
