the gun seems to be double feeding as if the longer hard ball is hitting the feed ramp and causing the problum

every round? sporaticly? by double feed you mean one in the chamber and one nosed in behind it?

SGB, it happens maybe every ten to twenty rnds. and with any manufacture hardball and yes the malfunction is as you described

Both are live rounds? Or is the fired case being trapped by the next round feeding from the magazine?

...and this only happens with ball ammo?
You've got me at a loss. I have never seen this type of malfunction with a 1911. |

I have never seen two live rounds fed out of a single feed position magazine, ball ammo or not, especially considering you're saying hollow points are feeding...

guys thank you for responding to my post ,I went to a new range yesterday and met a real 1911 nut he showed me where the rnd. was hanging up and we went in the back to the smith shop he pollished the ramp where it meets the chamber and took a little off the top end of the chamber roof with a white pad dremil like magic it feed 200 rnd. of hardball with out missing a beat

 ...............so how did this cure the DOUBLE feed problem? Those of us that apparently don't know our ass from a hole in the ground would like to know.

Theoretically, I suppose it is possible that the mag was somehow releasing more than one round at a time once in a while, but...as both Lumpy and SGB know...a "double feed" is usually a failure to eject and the symptom is that the fired case is trying to feed back in along with the next live round from the mag. I also have never seen this IF the pistol in question was being live fired...but I have seen it happen when someone was dicking around with hand-cycling live rounds slowly...were you by chance perhaps doing that or not?

If that would of happened to mine, I would of sent it back to Kimber! That kind of malfunction just doesn't sound real? Puzzled am I.
