The purpose of this thread is to compile data on the P22

Everyone who owns one, or has owned one, please submit the following:

1. Serial number prefix
2. Approx. date of manufacture (if known, or date of purchase if new)
3. Problems (if any, include round count if known)
4. Did warranty service correct the problems (if performed)?
5. Other comments

I'll continue to compile the data, and hopefully, this will be of use in the future.

Please also suggest any improvements.

I don't have the serial numbers on the last 2, but I'm on my 3rd. My first, the saftey would kick in when it was on fire... this was after about 3000rnds. The hammer wouldn't strike the pin. Got a new one, the next one the slide broke it just the right spot so the slide lock would not engage when the gun was empty. This happened after about 1000rnds. I since sold it, and now have one with about 1500-2000 through it. No problems yet.

mfingar,

I'm tweaking the data, could you give some date information (like when you bought it, was it new) so that we can approximate date of manufacture?

Thanks

And for you guys with the unknow for manufacture date, if I remember right, the date code is on the side of the gun.  I believe right beside the proofing marks.  I'll have to check mine again to make sure.

We own two.

LO74XXX
LO71XXX
Date of manufacture both 3/05 Both purchased new 4/05
rounds fired each approximately  3000
Only failures occurred when guns were very dirty after 500+ rounds each in a day.  Did a quick range cleaning and they both functioned flawlessly again.
They are a lot of fun and accurate also.

Ok, I went to the range yesterday and fired about 100 rounds.  I had a few problems with the slide hanging up on the hammer right where the safety bar is.  Today I polished the top of the hammer, the safety bar, under the slide where the hammer rubs and the feed ramp.  I also took out the mag safety.  The slide cycles so much better now.  I’m taking it out to the range again to see how it does, and this time I’ll fire about 250-300 rounds.

UPDATE

Went to the range last night and fired just over 400 rounds with 7 types of ammo with no problems at all.

Sorry it took so long. Heres the info on the P-22 I currently have:

SN# NO27***
I bought it around 4/04.
I think it's going to have the same problem my last one did soon with the chip comming off the upper in that spot so the slide won't lock back. It's starting to look worn there.

How long is the warrenty on this gun good for? I assume that has something to do with why this post is going. I think if this pistol breaks down, I'll be in the market for a different brand of 22 pistol that will take the same can. My suggestion is that the use a different matterial for the upper. Titanium would probobly work, I know it would be expensive. Stainless would be ok too, but I'm sure that would cause all sorts of problems. Maybe aluminum.

DOP 8-6-05
Mags marked 265-93-44A
Approx. 200 rds. of mixed CCI Velocitor, Federal Classic, Winchester X22LRH.

No problems whatsoever, 100% reliable.

Of course the Remington CB's, Aguila SSS will not cycle, but I already knew that.

I didn't want to edit my original post because I wanted you to be sure to see this info.  After firing only about 500 rounds, the read sight is now VERY loose.  It just wobbles around.  The only screw on the sight is the adjustment screw.  I can't figure out how to tighten it back up.  I'm going to play around with the pistol tonight.  When I have something resolved I'll update THIS post with the results.

Also wanted to add that during my last range session, I shot a mix of maybe 80 rounds of Remington Thunderbolts and Federal (the big 500+ round box from Walmart).  About every other magazine the slide would not hold open on the empty magazine.  This happened with two different magazines using both kinds of ammo.

ETA: 08/12/05 - Yesterday I put five 10-round magazines through the pistol.  Three mags were loaded with Federal "value box" (or whatever they are called in the big 500+ round box from WallyWorld) and two mags had Rem Thunderbolts.  The Rem ammo groups much better.  The slide did not lock back on the last round with any of the five magazines.

Rear sight still has a lot of play.  Can't seen any way to tighten it.  This might be going back to Walther/S&W.  Overall, I'm starting to not be very impressed with this little pistol.

Thanks for the update. Let us know how things turn out.
