Title says it all.

I hear about O rings but want to make sure what to look for. Usually I just take the thread protector off when shooting.

It's for two Glock 9mms, CZ Scorpion and 1911 in 45 ACP.

Thanks.

Oring works fine or a few drops of blue loctite

I was told a few wraps of teflon tape by a
high end gunsmith. I have added that to
my FNX tacticals, but I haven't shot them
very much since then, but it does seem
like it would work.. Cheap enough to
try, anyway.

Same, then get annoyed and toss the cap in my range bag.

I’ve been not putting them back on more than fussing with them.
(I rarely shoot unsurpressed if given an option)

Pin and weld.

More seriously, how about drilling and tapping the protector for a set screw?  Use a nylon tipped screw.  Properly torqued it'll secure the protector and not damage the threads underneath.

I like a drop of red loctite, put a dot on the barrel.  Let it dry, leaving a red gummy dot in the threads..  then thread on your thread protector.

What size is appropriate for a 9mm barrel?

I'm interested to on the O-rings my 19 Cap won't stay on for four rounds.
I don't like the idea of putting something on the threads I have to clean off to put the suppressor on.
I was going to order a protector and o-ring from Brownells.
If I can just get an O-ring that would be sweet.

Blue Monster PTFE Thread Seal Tape, I use it on everything that is removable, keeps thread protector nuts on, keeps cans tight during use too.
Its thicker than the off the shelf white Teflon tape.

Been using a black o-ring on my CZ P01 Urban Gray and CZ 85 for a couple years.  Been working great so far.  Did have an o-ring on the CZ85 fail but it stayed in place (o-ring and thread protector) and I didn't know the o-ring had cracked/torn till I was removing the thread protector to clean the pistol.

You can get different diameter O-rings (not just different in total OD but different in thickness of the material.  The "right" thickness will allow the thread protector to tighten down snug and you won't even know the o-ring is there unless you look real close.  If you get an o-ring a little to thick then you'll be able to see it but it will still lock the thread protector in place on the barrel.

+1 On Viton O-rings. I believe mine are #6 o-rings, 7/16" x 5/16" x 1/16"

Yeah, that's the size to get. You gotta stretch them a bit to get then over the barrel and the roll them on. They are snug for sure.

I have had no luck with O-rings, but a wrap of teflon tape hasn't failed me yet.

I've always heard people worry about that but on my M&P thread cap it doesn't loosen ? I have no idea why but I'm not complaining either

Not a lot of meat on every protector I've seen to be able to thread.

Be very easy to strip out.
