What weight and bullet types are you useing in your carry guns? And what made you choose what you use?

180 grain regardless of manufacturer. I get less recoil and better accuracy (as a general rule) with the 180's.

I really struggled with this issue myself awhile back.
The .165 JHP does have a higher velocity than the .180 and slighter more KE, but since this is a JHP and not a FMJ that extra KE works against it. The .165 JHP hits a target with such KE that it expands more quickly and as an effect has less penetration. In addition, the .165 JHP hits the target with such force that it is more prone to come apart than a .180 and does not retain it's size and weight as well traveling through the target. So, with the .180 you get a slow moving heavy round that is able to get deeper penetration and retain more of its size and weight. So you get better penetration, expansion, and retention on average with the .180 JHP than the .165 JHP. Again if this was FMJ rifle round things would be different, but the JHP design with the intended expansion is what is key here. More force it hits with more force acts against it to slow and stop it causing the JHP nose to bloom sooner. I did worry a bit about over penetration, but figured it was acceptable to me. Also as other have said because the round leaves the barrel with less velocity there is less recoil (velocity counts more in terms of energy) with the .180. That's hard for most folks to grasp that the lighter round creates more recoil, but it is true. |

In my duty gun a G-23, I am issued Winchester Ranger 165 grain. But off duty I carry a H&K USP 40 full size and that is loaded with Corbon 150 grain jhp and if I'm out of Corbon I'll use Winchester Ranger 155 grain regular jhp. Both the Corbon & Ranger regular jhp provide plenty of velocity 1200 fps or more. They are more likely to expand in human media and not over penetrate which is an consideration when out and about in the public. Remember when I'm on duty and I use my gun I have the backing of my dept to help me out, when you are off duty or a civilian you'll have to cover your own ass!

The shorter the barrel the lighter the bullet to increase velocity. Full size are 180g and compacts are 165g.

165 Gold Dots....But I now carry a 10mm and use 180 Grain Gold Dots.
I have tried the DPXs (I load Barnes in many different calibers, especially my elk guns and love them), but was not impressed with the velocity (I know that this is not the determining factor in carry ammo...but it plays a huge role that many people ignore), and have handloaded some. They are pretty wicked at higher velocities...especially out of my 10 mike mikes. |

Got one right here 140 grain DPX, 40 S&W .I haven't had any issue's with Corbon ammo... 1200fps and 448ft lbs seems pretty good to me! |

Handloads 135gr Nosler JHPs @ 1400fps.
I like light and fast for street. If I am going into the woods, and not carrying my .41mag, then I go for the double tap 200gr WFNGC rounds. |

I didn't notice much difference between 180 gr. GD's or 165 gr. GD's in my G27. I have been sticking to 165 gr. GD's because of the reduced velocity out of my G27 short barrel and use it in my G23 as well.
I hear the GD bonded bulletts are better penetration through glass. |

Was carrying 165gr Remington Golden Saber in my XD-40 Service. Started having problems with the bullets setting back into the cases after only two or three times being chambered. I have since switch to Federal 165 Expanding Full Metal Jacket (EFMJ) in my XD-40SC.

My department mandates we use Winchester 165gr Ranger SXT in our duty G22 weapons. When not at the cop shop I carry a G23 as my EDC with 14 rounds of 165gr Federal HST rounds or Speer 165gr GDHP when I can't get the HST's.

180 gr. Ranger-T's in my XD40 Service. I'm open to trying the DPX though, if of course, I can find them at a reasonably priced rate...
ETA: I found Corbon DPX for $30.03 per box. Much better than the $36-39 I've been seeing. If Hotpig doesn't get some more Ranger T in soon, I may try some of the DPX. |

Remington UMC 180gr. HP
I get them in 100 packs from Wally-World. They shoot great and cycle well through all of my semi-auto pistols. They are just as good as you're gonna get, given shot placement is key to everything. They are a decent price at $25 per 100. I buy the Winchester White Box (WWB) FMJ 100 packs for $20 each, and use them for target practice when possible being that some of my guns are picky and only like to shoot the HP's. I like to shoot with what I carry. |

Yep. Bought some for testing purposes in my USPc and read up on them later. Everything I read seemed to indicate they would be more then acceptable as a defensive round. I see no reason to switch now. |

I am using 180 gr Rangers also like many others. I use them because they have decent ballistics. I was using 155 Gr Silver Tips but I ran out. When I run out of Rangers I will go to the 2 boxes of Hydra Shocks.

Glock 22C is duty pistol. Used to have RA40T, until the last department mandatory range session (we shot up the Ranger in the session), then it was replaced by Hornady TAP, I think the 180gr TAP CQ. (not sure, they didn't issue it by box, just "refill your mags with this new duty ammo [which was loose in a large box, but I saw TAP boxes in the trashcans] and GTFO")
I use it because they issue it to me...
