I was at Gander Mountain the other day and was stunned by the price.  I asked a clerk if they were serious on the price?

Fourty-four bucks for 5 rounds of 9mm silvertips?

Yes...they were serious.

Have they gone out of production or something?

My price as a LE dealer is 17.54 per box. It is just a little cheaper than the Ranger ammo.

hahah.  i was at a big 5 quite some time ago to look at their milsurps.  really wierd, mostly crappy sporting goods store in the northwest that occasionally has good deals on the 3 rifles they sell.

anyways, they had 100 rd wwb for $30/box.

Quoted:
$44.99 for a box of Silver tips in 9mm

I've noticed this phenomenon too. I used to think that they had some slack jawed yokel put the stickers on the things, then decide to vehemently stick to the price. Last time I was there I saw a box of 8mm Remington Magnum selling for 75 bucks.

You'll see how priceless they are when you have a werewolf chasing your ass.

I seriously think they must believe that the bullets really ARE tipped with silver at that price.

I asked hte clerk for clarification and he was certain that the price was accurate.

...

They come in 5-round boxes now?
That would be ~$132 to load one standard magazine.

Good thing you carry anal lube!

Listen here, Toots - you shouldn't be buying those anyway.

Did you get the memo?

No, what wrong with silver tips???

Why post a link to a thread with ZERO information about the question he asked? I read the entire thread and there are NO mentions of Winchester Silertips in pistol calibers. The only mention of Silvertips is the 150 grain in .308 and it is named only.
Silvertips in 9mm are a solid round and are also afforadble to practice with as they come 50 to a box instead of 20. Plus kill werewolves!

What Zhukov is getting at is that the performance of the Silvertips has been eclipsed by rounds of newer design, which expand more reliably through clothing (because attacks by naked men are in the minority), have higher retained mass, and - concerning the 115 gr Silvertip - meet minimum penetration requisites more easily.

Ah!
Then the price has not changed too much over the years. I recall 20-round boxes of Federal HydraShocks priced right around $20.

Still, I think I may start following your habit of carrying anal lube.

I've noticed a lot of "mom and pop stores"  jack ammo higher and higher.....the local place I WENT to sold 7.62x39 wolf for 12.99 a box and when I asked about 7.62x54R they said they would sell me 60rds of corrosive Czech for $75.00. I told him no way. as I left he got mad and stated " try to find it cheaper !!!!" (this was my third time in the place that I didn't buy anything, obviously). Why are guys at these gun stores more clueless than regular people ????

I think now that the mainstream media is carrying almost daily stories about ammo shortages/price hikes the general public (mouth breathers and scam artists) are trying to capitalize.

Gah!  I've got a couple of boxes of those (just the bullets), I should load em up and polish them good, I could get money for them at those prices

$44.99 had to be a mistake, the clerk doesn't know anything, or else it was a special run of vamp killing ammo in which case you should have picked up a box.

That price must be some sort of mistake, but I have noticed that Silvertips have been way overpriced almost everywhere I look, and, in fact, I don't think I've even bought a box, in over ten years, mostly because of the price.
