I took a chance on a well used P228 parts kit on Gunbroker.  It was rough and I did trash the old night sights for classic contrast sights.

Then I bought a Matrix Precision jig with a P228 style anodized frame.  With about 3 hours of slow work, this was the outcome:

The rails were very simple to cut and I did it by hand.  The most difficult hole to cut was for the hammer strut, but I did all the holes with a 110V hand drill.

Much more satisfaction than a P80 Glock build.

I don't know anything about what you did but looks good to me. Nice going.

Nice

One of my first guns was a SigArms 226 that had been well-used.  I replaced most of the internals and put on E2 grips.  I still keep that gun in my nightstand.

Never knew 80% P228 frames were a thing. You've piqued my interest.

There are 80% frames for the entire P22X series.

My Matrix Precision rail cutter will also cut 1911 frame rails by just swapping the mount and carbide bits.

I seriously kick myself for not buying more of those surplus P228s and P228 parts kits that flooded the market about 10 years ago. My P228s sit quietly in the safe just because I don't want to risk breaking parts.

I've got a 229 with a fubar'd frame. This is an interesting option to bring it back.

I was concerned about there being no anodizing after I cut the rails.  Realistically, as long as they are greased, the 7075 is plenty strong enough that I will never wear it out.  It would take well over 10K rounds to even make a noticeable difference.  Plus, there is anodizing on the outer and upper edges of the rails.

I would be more concerned about aluminum oxide (its version of rust) eating at the slide - but as you said, a good coating of oil/grease and it will likely outlive me.

I stupidly bought the 1911 only version of the Matrix cutter because the combo version was out of stock. I really should purchase the conversion kit upgrade they sell so I can do both.

And yeah, 228 kits were cheap years ago but back then I didn't know you could get frames. Shoulda, coulda
