I just bought my first AK clone and was wondering if anyone knew whether the bolt is stainless steel or chrome plated.
It's a Century built M70B1 with Zastava markings.

I believe they're stainless but I'm not 100% sure.

Also believe stainless as Yugoslavia did not have access to chrome otherwise they might have put some in the barrel.

That is a often quoted rumor that has taken on a almost factual understanding. The real truth is that Yugoslavia, in particular Macedonia, was a exporter of Chromium. Why they did not use Chrome in their barrels? That is still a mystery and source of speculation. It was not due to a lack of resource for Chromium. Of course the chrome process is not just about chromium, but also about copper and nickel. |

The bolt and carrier are "In the white" as in not blued or plated. It is not stainless. Treat it like you would a Mosin-Nagant or Mauser bolt.
