Quoted: Well, the SKS was free... it was given to me. But I don't like rifles w/out pistol grips (being in the army, we're accustomed to them).

Like was said before, you can get a decent PG stock set for the SKS, and a decent Bipod for fairly cheap, but I would avoid some of the other add ons that seem to be popular with new SKS owners, such as reciever cover scope mounts, detatchable mags, and the like. By the time you have gotten a decent scope mount, stock and Bipod on there you could have nearly bought a WASR, that comes with a PG and scope mount from the factory. As for the detatchable mags, they are useless, they are a pain to change, and they are not very reliable. I have two SKS-D's that were built at the factory to take AK mags, and they are not as reliable as the standard box mag.
I would recomend putting at least a thousand rounds through it as it is, before you decide what you do and do not like about them. Many a new SKS owner has paid a lot of money for accesories and gadgets only to discover that the rifle was damn near perfect from the factory.
