There were (yippie! WERE!) two laws regarding AKs.
1) the 1989 import and assembly ban
2) the 94 Krime ban.
The 89 ban elliminated IMPORTED AKs in their original pistol grip form. If a rifle is imported that is a copy of a military gun and takes high cap mags I cannot have a pistol grip, flash hider, blah blah blah, see the tacked threads for more details.
This opened up the debate on how many parts made it an "import", which was clarified to mean more than 10. An imported rifle that has enough parts replaced with US parts so that it only has 10 imported parts is now a US made rifle and does not fall under the 89 ban- so add all the kool features back on.
The 94 ban limited the cool features to only ONE, which was usually the pistol grip (like the Romanian SARs), but now that it is gone YIPPIEEEEEEE add them all back on if you want
BUT ONLY AFTER YOU GET THE IMPORTED PARTS COUNT DOWN TO 10 OR LESS!
convert if you want or wait until someone else does it commercially
