Just found WASR 2 and 3 (.223) for sale at FAC website. Is a (low cap) WASR 3 the same as a WASR 10 just chambered for different caliber? Really want a .223 but was worried about availability of replacement mags and spare parts. What the diff between the WASR 3 and the SAR 3? Any reason the mag well couldn't be opened as with the WASR 10? Thanks.

SAR3s were only completely reliable with Weiger mags.  5.45 Bakelites could be modified to work.  Anything else was a crapshoot.

Great guns with the right mags, though.

Think I will stick with the WASR 10 for now. Any chance of working .223 mags becoming available at a later date? Or are they just going to get rarer?

SAR3 used a Bulgy bbl, not sure if the Romys make their own 223 bbl yet. Too early to know about bbls, mag happiness..

This is a myth. The SAR-3 .223 barrels are indeed of Romanian manufacture, not bulgarian. They just incorporated the 90 degree gas block on this prototype.
