Looks great! Was it built from a kit? I'm looking for an East German 74 kit.

Thanks. Yeah..........I can't keep those damn DDR nomenclatura straight!!!
 Too many damn letters!!!!!!!!  Global trades receiver on a matching partial Bulgy kit I bought and then filled the gaps in on from K-Var and Northridge Int'l. Good luck on finding a DDR kit. |

I never saw why the Germans called it "MP" even though it fires a rifle round...
Nice reciever! I note the additional selector position... are both positions "on safe" or does one do something special? |

The stock also had a ribbed buttplate and wider sling loop that was different from the AKM-47 rifle type. Hootbro |

The additional center selector position does nothing but look "right". I also had to rivet a wider sling loop on the folder. The DDR muzzle brake came from Northridge Int'l.

How about the markings on the trunion? They look like orginal DDR markings.
The last three of the serial number are also present on the selector on the MPi-AKS-74N. I'll try to scan some pics from the Masami Tokoi book. JoeLad

Fixed buttstock for the MPi-AK-74. Unlike AK-74's in the Soviet style, there is no provision for a trapdoor compartment.

Trunnion...........I removed enough metal until the markings were gone. Restamped the markings using an appropriate date, the real serial number of the receiver and made the K3 stamp using a larger oval shaped "O" layed on it's side and then stamping a smaller 'K3' inside of it. I based the layout on pics taken and posted by Ron Stott. I have lots of metal stamps so...........you know...........anyway...........after it was all riveted I sandblasted the whole receiver including of course the trunnion stampings. Always seems to work out OK. I think when I do a really nice Izhevsk clone I'll send the whole mess to Ted Marshal for engraving though. Even though I've done some Russki "forging", his stuff is artwork. Of course I think he has a $10,000 machine to do it!

Excellent Tomovich! You've had me searching the 'net looking for a DDR 74 trunion. I considered the fact you ground it down and restamped the number, and you did a very good job at it. It looks exactly like the rifle in "AK47 & Variations". But is looks as tho the Germans engraved the number on the topcover and selector. But who cares.
Did I mention I hate you for doing this? Now I gotta buy a stamp set or two.JoeLad

Sarco was supposed to bring in some DDR AKS74 kits, but it never happened.
I was able to get a DDR AKS74 kit a couple years ago on Ebay.. Mine didnt come with the barrel trunnion or bolt though. |
