I just bought an used SAR-1 and I want to deneuter it the best way possible.  I want a bayonet lug installed and a threaded barrel with slant brake.  I know you can buy a gas chamber from k-var but I was also told the lug could be welded on.  Also I want to tread the barrel and install a slant brake that will accomodate a bayonet.  Please help.

I decided that replacing the gas block just wasn't worth the money.  I don't need a bayonet lug that bad.  You could consider buying one of the Romanian kits and just yanking the SAR barrel and installing the kit barrel.  Could be cheaper in the long run.  Anyway, on mine, I rented a threading die for $15.  Spud in the bore, screw on the die, some cutting oil and 10 minutes later, the job was done.  You can try getting a piece of steel stock and shaping the detent, or just look for one at the gun show.  That's what I did.  Punch out the pin holding the FSB on the barrel, insert spring and detent from the front, reinsert FSB retention pin.

Do a search - there is a member named "Atlarge" that sells a kit to add the bayonet lug back to your gas block.   Also, a member named "wjm" rents a threading kit to thread your barrel.  This is what I used on my SAR-1 and it turned out great.

Good info, thanks, I've got a WASR-10 that could use that kit.

Cut it down into a AK104/ AIR carbine length gun.

Why not just add a drop of weld on each side of the old lug and dremmel it to shape?  BTW, my bayonet locks just fine on my nuetered bayo lug.. guess they didn't grind it down enough.
