I bought three AMD-65 kits, back when they were under $100. One for me, one for my 12 year old, and one for my 2 year old.
I was going to just build them up with the extensions, but with the barrel ban maybe affecting future importations, and the rising cost of the AMD kits, I am thinking that it may be worth it to make one of them (mine, of course) with the correct barrel length.
Pros: Maybe increase the value? Cool factor. Correct form.
Cons: $200. I have no NFA right now, so my wife (and my older son, when necessary) can legally access my gun safe. If I build one with a short barrel, then I am the only one who can get into my safe. It would put my otherwise "off the books" AK into the biggest book of them all.
What do you guys think? I'm tempted to do it, but don't know if it's worth the hassle. If I do SBR it, could I put a separate combination trigger lock or something on it, so my wife can have access to the safe if necessary? I'd like to buy a MG in the future, and it would be worth it to lock the rest of my family out for THAT, but I'm not sure about locking them out over a SBR.
ETA: Also, do I need to use US parts in a SBR for 922 compliance?
