Back around 1999-2000 I got the bug for an old school AK-47.  I picked up 3 SLR-100 milled Bulgarian receivers in the white, along with 3 milled parts sets.  The parts sets consisted of 2 unissued Polish, and one very lightly used Hungarian.  I found a local smith, Charles Bratton, who at the time was the owner of Blue Ridge Precision.  He was one of the 4 companys building the milled SLR100 series of rifles, popular around this time.  I contracted him to build 1 of my kits up, with instructions to reproduce the high polish blue of the early period of AK production.  I sent him a in the white SLR100 receiver, and a Polish parts kit.  This is what I received in return:

My plan was to build the other 2 kits/receivers with Charles, based on how this first build went.  By the time Charles finished the build, Blue Ridge Precision went under.  I still have the 2 unfinished receivers and kits.... 1 Polish and 1 Hungarian... along with the bare SLR100 receivers.

Big old school fan here!

Old School is cool!

So is Charles going to try doing his own thing again?

His fire control groups gave really smooth triggers but they tended to be over hardened and brittle.

I have lost track of Charles...  he finally got his triggers right, but then went out of business, what a shame.  The trigger in this rifle was tuned by Charles, its very crisp.

I'm looking for a nice slab sided mag now...  I want one that is pristine to match the rifle, and they are hard to come by.
