I'm thinking about buying two Krink kits. One in 7.62 and the other one in 5.45. I would like to get them SBR'd as side folders. What is the process for applying for the $200 stamp that you need to have them SBR'd. And any recommendations on how to take a kit that is an underfold and switch it to side folder.

I don't have a receiver or anything right now.  I'm just trying to get all of my facts together before I do anything.  I would be buying the kits and then going from there.  Krinkfreak recommended a side folder for the Krink.  So, I'm gonna go with the advice of someone who knows.  Us 2LT's know how to listen to the senior enlisteds.

How much of a pain is it to get the $200 tax stamp paperwork completed for an SBR?

You'd be amazed at how fast your $200 dollar check gets cashed versus how long it takes for you to get approval back.

Sounds like the govt.  When you owe the govt money, in the military, you'll see it taken out of your next paycheck; no matter if that means you get $0 for your next paycheck.  But when they owe you, all you can do is shut up and color.  Is it a seperate form for each SBR?  Where do you find the forms?

Never done it myself but from what I've heard the first (only?) obstacle is to make sure your local chief LEO will sign off on your form.

Other than that it's just money and wait.

Per the article in the latest SGN, the form says you should not call to check progress until 90 days, but per the ATF office in VA you should basically call EVERY day after 90 to push it through.

Good luck. I've already got my 7.62 SBR kit and I'm pondering one of those K-var krinks myself.

It's actually pretty easy you just need to go through the stupid bullshit. You'll get it all over with in an afternoon.

Never done it, but it can't be too difficult......It's a guvment form...........

My LLC tax-stamp came back in 1 month and 5 days, and that was for a SBR.

Would it be best to buy the kit and send off for the stamp once I've got everything shipped off to the builder?  Or should I get the stamp and then worry about shipping it off?

Is there THAT big a difference between the ones offered there and the ones that ORF is offering?

it's the same kit. I didn't check the year manufacture on mine from ORF but it's got the tritium sights and is excellent.

buy a receiver $50-100, do the paperwork$200, send it off to NFA, get a kit $400-600, send to inrangec2 or other smith while being processed (2 month back log 1 month ago) or after the paperwork comes back (3-4 months// or 6-7 month total wait) with ~$450 for the build.  IM questions.. I'm on the last step (build/waiting).
