I have been in contact with Russian American Armory Company via e-mail. RAA will be importing Saiga's again. Their website will be up Sept. 19 with a list of their distributors. Rifles will only be sold to these distributors. The Saiga's will be just like the ones EAA imported. The first shipment of rifles is suppose to leave Russia Oct. 1 and be in U.S. by the end of the month. The website address is  www.raacfirearms.com/. I am happy...........The price gouging on the EAA saiga's is ridiculous.

My thought is that the 8 rounds mags are not classified as "sporting" by the alphabet boys, so IMO when hell freezes over.

I am considering a .308 just to have another AK in a different round.

About 2 months ago I picked up 3 Saiga-12 8 rounders (9 if you use the BHO) for $75 shipped.

I still want my Saiga-12 SWAT (i.e. the -30 model).

Since I am relatively new to AKs, help me out guys...

1. When did they stop importing the SAIGA's ???

2. While they were still being imported, how much did they cost ?  Just a relative "mean" number will do .

3. What builders convert SAIGA's ?   I need names people  : )

4. How much does AK-USA charge to convert a SAIGA ?  They pulled their pricing in the past few weeks.. ??

5. Will SAIGA conversions be competitive in price with Arsenal Inc. Rifles ???

Sorry for all the questions... I am just excited as I have been following this topic for a while in the SAIGA section.

I'm just wondering if they will be able to compete with Arsenal.... Then again I need you guys to tell me what the SAIGA's
used to cost and what they cost to convert before I can decide if they can compete or not

Thanks for any answers.

ETA:  Will these be coming in 5.45 as well ?

A 7.62x39 Saiga could be had for $160.00 last year, a 308 would run about $270-350, Shotguns .410-20ga-12ga $150-250. I will be very surprised if the new prices are so low.

FYI , We ,Atlantic Firearms, llc will be distributors for the Saiga /RRA line of firearms, we expect the first limited shipments to arrive in late Oct. Yes the prices will be higher than before but not out of control. The great news is the new importer has a fair amount of these firearms scheduled for importation and is only concentrating on the importation of this product line. Thank You Atlantic Firearms, llc

Let us know if the "model lineup" has changed.

As I recall they had the following or sale last year:

Saiga 7.62x39
Saiga .223
Saiga .308

Saiga .410 shotgun
Saiga 20-ga shotgun
Saiga 12-ga shotgun

Anything changing? New configurations?

Thanks for all the information NH_AR_Shooter...

I'll e-mail Chris sometime next week so I can get an idea of how much I will have to be saving

I am really in the market for a 5.45 gun, Templar told me that I would be getting one... I guess he
is psychic somehow

Hopefully in the next few weeks we will see if they will be importing any 5.45, but like you said... It
seems unlikely since the 5.45 is banned in Russia.

I like the idea cheap AKs, but I like quality too. That is why I would like my next AK purchase to float
around 500 bucks. There is just something about owning a real Russian gun that makes me all warm and
fuzzy inside. Maybe I got into the AK game way too late because having a nice kit built or buying a new
gun isn't much cheaper than buying an AR... especially if you are "building" handicapped. I just hope
that these Saigas will help bring about healthy AK competition so the priced can be lowered a bit.

I guess if all else fails I guess I could just get a .223 Saiga coverted, then wait for
a side folding Arsenal 5.45.

Oh yeah, are the .223 SAIGAs 5.56 rated or not ?

Thanks again for the help...

You're Welcome.

As far as quality goes, its hard to beat a Saiga converted by Chris. Saigas are made by Izhmash, except for the absence of magwell dimples, these are the real thing. There are other great builders out there, but AK-USA gets my vote.

An Arsenal gun built from parts on an American receiver may be as good or better, but where AKs are concerned I tend to favor Izhmash. Now....if only they would send us some guns with "dimples".

As far as kits go, if there is anyway you can pick up one or more of those excellent Romy kits, you should do it. Have them built eventually or sell them later, you can't lose.

$160.00 in unconverted form. All of those prices I gave are for the base line Saigas, from CDNN, they won't be that cheap again, kind of sucks, the AWB goes away and AK prices go up.

Well I guess I will hold off from getting a another Vepr K until I see the prices of the new Saigas. If they are $300 or under for an unconverted one I will get some if they are close to $400 I will just get another Vepr. However I am a shooter not some one wanting to build a classic AK piece. A local gun store is advertising the 10rd WASR for $204 so I am thinking of picking up one of those  and tweaking it but my Saiga .223 sure is a lot nicer than my Romanian I have. I canverted my Saiga my self and thought it was fairly easy. The only trick was the feed ramp design. It took a bit of woork but it will feed anything with the 35 RD Galil mags or my converted AK 74 mags.

Seeing as the .223 Saigas were still around new a couple of months ago for less than $250, I would hope that the distributors aren't going to be above $300, and even less for the 5.56x39 which were less than $200 on sale when they were still coming in.

Mine ran on anything I threw at it in unconverted form, SS109 to Wolf hp all went fine.

I asked that same question earlier... I guess since you ran SS109 through it, then it should be fine.

I know someone out there could jump in here and say "yep, she's 5.56 NATO all the way baby"... I guess
I will just be waiting for that guy

I really just have the numbers floating around in my head about Saiga conversions. I found that conversion website
and it seems "fairly" simple... but if the guns are going to cost over 3-400 bucks, then it wouldn't be
worth it to me. It would just make more sense to get a SAM-5 or an SLR-105 and be done with it. Or a couple
of WASRs for that matter.

This may sound like blasphemy, but I don't really care anything about "historical accuracy", I just
want quality made, reliable, cost effective AKs (real shooters that will probably never see the inside of my safe). If I had any building talent or tools, then that would be fun, but I don't. I leave building to the pros.

Maybe Atlanticfirearms and others will be posting some prices for the new Saigas soon... then I'll know what
route to take

Mr. Atlantic Firearms... I would be "interested" in the .223 & 7.62x39 models

While you're at it, call Russia and tell them that we want some 5.45 as well

Call me crazy, but for those prices... I think it would be a great place to start with
"converting" for an AK newb

So I read that article on conversion and the guy said 3 hours...

So if I multiply  X.... and add the time up for.... eat.... think about sleep..... fix what I screwed up in step 3.... re-do step 3 because I read it wrong.... pass Go and collect 200.... I should be able to complete a conversion right before the second coming of Christ

Is it measure once cut twice, or just eyeball it then cut

Wonder when we will be seeing some pics of these nice guns ?

Okay, I checked around.

The average price for an unconverted Saiga in .223 or 7.62x39mm is $300. The average price for the .308 is between $400 and $500.

The average price for a converted Saiga in any caliber is $500 to $600.

I'm hoping new imports become a definite reality and the price goes down drastically. Then I could conceivably get my dream AK before Hitlery comes to power and the Beast rules us for seven years.
