The thread in the GD about combat ranges got my interest piqued. 7.62 and 5.45 AKs and SKSs. Around here there is only a 100 yard range*, however it might aswell be 1000 yards because I can't seem to zero the sights enough to hit paper.

I have no trouble hitting 10" plates at 200 yards with my SAR-1, but I havn't tried to see what my groups are on paper.
What are you shooting that you can't get on paper @ 100 yards? You should be able to do that with your eyes closed......

I hardly ever shoot "groups". I just shoot plates also. As for getting sighted in, if I am way off I just shoot into the berm. That will tell you how far off you are, and which way.

I also only shoot plates, hitting a 10" plate at 200 yards is no problem with my ChiCom and Global Trades 7.62 AKs. I can hit a chest size target fairly easily at 400 yards with my ORF AK-74, but can't seem to do it with the 7.62 AKs.

I don't shoot at paper at that distance but from the bench I can tell you I can hit a empty 20lb. propane tank every time.

Last time I was at the range I wasn't able to zero my SKS @ 100. No luck. I will be fixing that however...

Start off at 25, shoot 30 rounds slowly checking out where your hits are going. Move to 50 shoot another 30 rounds. Then finally sight in at 100 (with the back iron sights set at a 100) by shooting another 30 rounds.
I've never shot my AK at 200 since theres no range around here in Fort Laud. so long.

They won't allow me to shoot at 25 in the pistol range. Bah.
