Archived [ARCHIVED THREAD] - Can someone tell me why some bolt carriers have notches in them??

and others dont.  I have seen little notches on the bottum of the bolt carriers just behind the charging handle.  Can anyone tell me what these are?

Even though the AK47 and AKM had standard manufacturing specs. different countries added their own little touches. These notches are suspected to be lightening cuts. I have seen them in later production Russian carriers and also in N.Korean carriers.
