After firing a hundred rounds through my AMD-65 build I noticed that the handguard was extremely hot. I replaced the lower handguard with a plastic US handguard with minor mods.

I want to add the gas tube cover that matches the black plastic lower handguard because the gas tube looks thin compared to the lower handguard. I saw that K-Var sells the upper handguard but it doesn't include the gas tube. Do these snap onto the existing short AMD gas tube? I don't want to get one if it is not going to work.

It will not work. The AMD requires the "short" Hungarian gas tube. You will have to cut a reugular one down and then flare it with a socket to make it work. I have been playing with the idea of getting an ULTIMAK tbe as they have the short ones for the AMD and the rails are quite nice for optics and such.

Somehow the Martha Stewart AK-47 Oven Mitt just doesn't seem right. It wouldn't be manly.

I do believe there were a certain # of Hungarian sa-85m with the short gas tube. If you could find one it would allow an upper HG.

And after 3 mags you can burn your hand by moving it 2" fore/aft on the std handguard too. Leather yard glove for me.

Somebody had been posting (2 years ago) an oven mitt that was a real chicken head design

Do any of you know if this gas tube will work? It's shorter than a regular tube but I don't know it's exact length. Campy?

Nope, but grateful bonus points for the direct link.
Maybe a quick call to KVAR. It looks just a tad longer than a std upper handguard, but I don't have a 65 with me to measure (poorly decorated office).

My AMD gas tube is 5 13/16" long. I'm going to call K-Var today.
