I think they made a Galil in 7.62x39 back in the day.

Nope, no factory Galils in 7.62x39mm, but Chuck Karwan had one custom built about 10 years ago and it did take AK magazines. It started out as a 5.56mm and was then rebarreled and the magwell opened up.
I've got an old magazine article about it laying around here somewhere. |

I would rather see a Ak-47 that is a Galil clone (looks like a galil, but is just a SAR-1 or something).

Some guy did a Norinco Hunter 7.62x39 sporter into a Galil conversion. Looked great & used regular AK mags.

On one of those "tales of the gun" shows or something like that, they had a old Israeli war vet on showing off his custom made 7.62x39mm "Galil", if you can call it that. It had a AK milled receiver, underfolder stock, Galil pistol grip, Galil forend and gas-block. It did look rather odd.....

AK mags lock nicely into the 5.56mm Galil reciever. |
