I was looking into buying an AK from K-Var. It seems they all come with the 74 muzzle brake. Does anyone know if these are removable or permanently attached? I had a 74 muzzle brake on a bushy 14.5" barrel, and that thing was loud!

Thanks

They are removable, and a much better brake than the bushy.

The newer brakes are all removeable via a reverse thread. They're loud but work well to diminish recoil. I suppose you could remove it while shooting but take care not to damage the threads on the front sight base from banging it around.

Thanks for the info guys. I'm probably going to get a slant brake. Do they all come in a standard thread? and do you know of a good place online to buy one?

Thanks

Typical slant breaks will not fit the 24mm threads of the Arsenal FSB.

There is a thread protector available as well as the Manticore Arms FS.

There may also be others but I am unaware of a slant brake for this FSB.

You need a 14mm LH thread for a normal slant brake.  Most of the 74 brakes are 24mm.
The brake doesn't throw back that much noise.

There are flash suppressors made for the 24mm thread if you don't like the noise from the brake.

They are removable, and 24mm right hand twist threaded (they wont accept a standard slant brake).  That being said you're probably going to want to keep it. The Ak-74 sytle brake is one of the best brake designs out there. It sigficantly cut's down muzzle rise and recoil.
