the tag on the box said it weighed 50 lbs. so im guessing two 550 tins ...1100total?

If its the steel core stuff, or military API or Tracer, I would have paid up to $300 for it. Why? That stuff can sell for $6-$7 for a 20 round box if it is steel core, if it is API or Tracer it goes from $1 a round and up. So yeah, its big stuff, and the 1994 classification of the 7.62x39mm as a pistol round means that NO MORE steel core or API or other odd stuff will EVER be imported or made legally again. Tracers are still made, but new MFG ones are $1 a round and up, even if you buy a 500 round case they are 88 cents a round.

I scored a 1100 rnd case at a local gunshow this weekend for $170.00. Price may be high, but it is in the basement now.

Vengar, you must not be talking about norinco. It hasn't been available since 94 so people get as much as they can for it. Not to mention wolf has gone up to around 130+ with the shortage.

My brother found some of this at a local shop, we bought one tin that had 550 rnds wrapped in paper on stripper clips. He pulled one apart and from the research available, it is indeed steel core. Its head stamp is 67 (1967) (corrosive), and it shoots a little hotter than the commercial stuff available on the market today (per my brother). We paid only $65.00 for one tin. I wish they would of had more.
 correct the # of rnds in the can as JA545 as pointed out. |

yeah, i lucked out about four years ago and bought a nib mak-90 and two of those tins for 400 bucks...i just sold the mak for 425 and the ammo sits un-disturbed. i really thought that i would win the crap, i know its not so common anymore, but geez....260 bucks!? there was a guy sitting next to me at the auction , after he watched me bidding ,he asked what i bid so high for,told me that it was made legal again to export, as i told him that was not true he argued with me and said it was and that he read about it in Shotgun News,...said i could buy the same crate for 80 dollars Ha Ha ....i just got up and left, on the way out the guy that bought the ammo asked why i bid so much?,...i said WTF are you talking about, you can buy wolf ammo for 116 bucks , why the hell did you pay 260 for that "crap"? he says" cause its ARMOR Peircing steel core,he also bought the arsenal milled mak that i bid 200 on ...he paid 600+ oh well,....ya win some, ya lose

Notice the "550" marked on the upper right hand corner of the tin of ammo in the pic. That is how many rounds are in the tin not 980. Click the link for the "AK rifle ammo id" page of my web pages for info and pics of the way Chinese ammo was packed in tins. Street Trends, you need to check any of the boxes of Chinese ammo that are not marked as to the type of bullet are in them. As it is toss up if they are lead or steel core bullets. Your right. I just counted again, and I only have 245 rnds. It was suppose to have been an even split with my brother. I wonder if the guy at the shop lifted a few rnds for himself? The can had already been opened, and my brother was the one that picked them up. Don't ask me how I came up with the other number. It was late, I guess.
btw the bullets have a boat tail design with a tar like substance as a sealer. The case is brass or copper plated steel. The head stamp does indicate that they where made at a ammunition plant that only made steel core in 1967. The head stamp is 31/67 |

JA45, At 2$ a box it was still a fair deal. Thanks for the heads up though. 200 rds. yellow box. 180 rds. red box china sports, 40 rds. light green box from china north, 100rds black and white china sports, 120 rds of silver box china north. 240 rds. dark green box and 100 russian plus 100rds of winchester & pmc

All the Chinese ammo in sealed tins wrapped in paper bundles has steel core bullets and is corrosive primed. ST, $2 a box is a good deal. From my web pages: Only Chinese factories 31, 71, 311 and 351 made lead core ball. (maybe 61 also, but not sure) Any other Chinese factory code will be steel core. Lead core ball from 31 ALWAYS has a green case mouth seal. Lead core ball from 71 ALWAYS has a knurled crimping groove on the projectile. Lead core ball from 311 and 351 is harder to tell, but generally the rounds have NO case mouth seal or primer seal and date from 1991-1994 The earliest known lead core from 31 is 1990 dated. The earliest known lead core from 71 is 1988 dated. |

When I had my FFL (93-95) Chinese Steel Core was $99 a case delivered, then the Feds got involved and I couldnt sell it and was stuck with 10,000 rds, now it just sits, since I no longer have an FFL I could sell it, but dont do gun shows anymore and parting it out at $2 a box aint worth it. Shipping bites you in the butt, so it collects dust, I got cases of Blue, Green, Yellow, green/white, all Norinco S/C and e. German too, I went to the gunshow in Indy last night WOLF new production 7.62x39 ammo was $115 a case, back to normal.

JA545, I have ammo from factory 71, dated 91, 92 and 94. Two rounds have a slashed diagonal crimping groove on the bullet, the rest have a thin barely noticeable line that goes around the projectile, does not look like anything intended for crimping. Are both lead core, or is one type steel? |

one on the right a Winchester 762x39 123 gr FMJ projectile, the one on the left is a GoldenWest Brass 124 gr FMJ projectile, it has big ol' crimp instead of a knurled crimping groove

Ive got one round that matches the bullet on the right, the one with the dashy things. The rest of the Chinese stuff has just a thin line around the bullet, not deep. So the ones with the thin line around the bullet are steel core, the one with the knurled crimping grove is lead core.
