If I am going to use Molyresin or Gunkote, do I have to have the metal sandblasted?  I know the Molyresin has to be sprayed and the Gunkote comes in a can.   Just do not have the capability of sandblasting.

the gunkote in a can is a ripoff

the cans are 1/2 the size of a normal spraypaint can.  for the amount you spend on 4 cans you could probably get an airbrush off ebay, a quart of gunkote and a quart of kphos.  Kphos is the pretreatment spray for gunkote.  I think you could get away with sanding everything really well, spray with kphos then spray with gunkote.

you have to be maniacal in terms of cleaning before you spray anytihng on.  gloves, and lots of degreasing/cleaning.

its probably a good idea to get it sandblasted though.  you are spending a bunch on the paint, its only going to flake off if you dont prep it correctly.
