As some of the regulars to this board know, I am a victim of the Boy wonder AK smith and Bridal wear tycoon of Harveyville Kansas - The famous Gucci Goo of SAI. To make a looong sad story short I am trying to salvage his hack job.

He return to me a Sagia 7.62 receiver with a Bulgarian AK-74 barrle pressed into the 7.62 Saiga trunnion. I have set the final headspace on this cursed project.

But I am having some trouble getting the AK-74 bolt to lock up properly with the 7.62 trunnion. It appears to me that the rails are ever so slightly lower than the area where they meet the trunnion, and unless your move the charging handle all the way back and let it slam forward it will not lock up every time.

I know I have the correct AK-74 bolt carrier and bolt because of the smaller diameter of the '74 bolt stem. I know it is the Saiga 7.62 trunnion because of the serial number and the extra rivet hole on the left side that is supposed to make it hard to install the bullet guide. I also know that a AK-74 bolt will not lock into a standard AKM trunnion.

My question is: will a AK-74 bolt carrier and bolt lock up correctly in a Saiga 7.62 trunnion ? Can it be modified to do so?
